GT3 Sport Chrono
Discussion
Specce'd our GT 3 with sport chrono. As it is being built in November the price has leapt by about £800. Came as a bit of a surprise though apparently it now does other things. My thinking was long term. When the day dawns that we decide to change it it's appeal as a potential track day car would attract a bigger audience thereby increasing its saleability if it was included.Adding a after market roll cage I believe is a relatively easy job. The thing is am I right? It might not be too late to add it on . Being avid tourers I like the thought of all that accessible space behind the seats , adding a roll cage reduces said space. Also cleaning the back window must involve a cloth on a stick.

Buckets and full leather are must haves imo.
So many of the gt3 for sale are bad speced cars with 20k on them.
But like most cars are selling like hot cakes, the 991gt3 seem to be all stuck for sale.
Market seems very stale ATM on this car 2nd hand.
Not sure if that's price or spec or because it's PDK or because for £130k you can buy other super cars ie the 458.
Spec is key for resale, I would add crono, lift, buckets, PCM, Bose, etc etc.

There were 6 used 991 GT3s on the Porsche site last week and then there were 3. It's just gone back to 4 so they are moving. A couple have sold recently through other dealers too, so people are buying them but I agree some of the prices are toppy for cars with comfort spec.
I would put a cage in the back anyway if you are going for buckets. You can still get 2-3 small soft holdalls in there even with the cage. I mean, just how much luggage are you ever really going to pile in the back? Aftermarket cages are not cheap and the club sport package is free if you have specced the buckets.
Chrono is expensive at £1k and adds nothing to the performance or driving experience of the car unless you are an obsessive lap timer on the track, I suppose. If the car is properly specced otherwise I think it's £1k you will never get back.

Last minute I went for Sports Chrono in my November build. I actually quite like the aesthetic of he clock but for me it's for the extra software. I've done no track days for 2 years and I want this car to get me track excited again. My misses got me Go Pro for birthday so been able to combine with the Chrono software is something to look forward too. Would be great to compare with others track laps and see where to improve.
I didnt go for buckets as ill be doing 10,000 daily miles a year with 500 track miles so comfort spec is my choice and what I would choose if buying used. I may not hold best residual, but it's the spec I will enjoy most in ownership.

Each to his own, but it seems very strange to justify Sports Chrono on the basis of track use and then not to spec buckets which are far superior on the track, which are fantastically comfortable for daily use (for me anyway) and which add to the 'special' feel of the car.I didnt go for buckets as ill be doing 10,000 daily miles a year with 500 track miles so comfort spec is my choice and what I would choose if buying used. Yes I get the opinion, but I spent 20 min sitting in buckets ten standard seats at OPC. And CSL i had with std buckets but wasnt other options so didnt cross my mind. The decision was made on majority of use for me. Sports Chrono was far bigger decision but its locked so c'est le vie. I have a 997.2 GT3 Clubsport (that has seen adequate circuit time) with Sport Chrono and the last time it was used was by a salesman over 3 years ago. In short - don't waste your money. Even if you have specified a fully track friendly steel braked Clubsport it is no more than yuppie bait and a waste of money IMHO. The cars to put it on are those that get a performance increase from the package like the S or Turbo, not the GT3.
As for debates on the 991 in general - the main dealer network have had between 2 and 6 available at any point in the year so far, they have tended to typically take a while to move and asking prices have drifted down a little but personally I reckon that it is too early to draw any real conclusions because they simply aren't the same target market as the earlier cars. Price and availability of the 991 RS is likely to have an effect though.
As a general point though - thus far: if you are buying with half an eye on the used market you ought to get buckets and a Clubsport. Traditionally less than a quarter of new buyers spec them but a far higher proportion of used buyers have wanted them. If you don't want a cage, order CS and have your OPC unbolt it for you before delivery and store it in your garage/box room/whatever. The 991 allows you to have leather folding buckets in a CS (unlike earlier GT3s) so that part of the argument is superfluous too...

Total lack of info on revised/new chrono imo. Only seen mention of smartphone (and pcm iirc). Is there analysis software for computer? Can non chrono user see data? May be my lack of knowledge but can it use video from any source? Spec on it such as gps hz? etc etc With 3rd party options you can take to your next/other cars.
For comfort spec is not necessary. With club sport spec, serious trackdayer's will prob already have datalogger and want to compare with previous and others which is the big part of logging. Light trackdayer's may want it but how much would it really be worth to them? Over harry's lap timer? But have to say looks good on dash and adds some feeling.

And a grey one sold at JZM
Another comfort spec, no leather, without lift but ceramics and GT silver.
Not too bothered about depreciation, however I'm fairly confident they'll stay over 100k for the next 18/24 months.
