CUP+ life span
Discussion
Quick question guys,
Recently fitted a set of CUPS with -2 on front and -2.5 rear camber. Only covered 1500miles and the rears are just about shot. Mileage made up of 100miles track use with remainder road. Wear seems crazy! Geo checked recently and spot on. Is this normal for this camber setting?
Doubt I'll buy another set! Already crippled my recent ring trip

Hi, something is really wrong there.
Seems a strange setup to have put on a GT3 -2.5 rear and -2.0 front...
What is rear toe setting ?
I have had cups and cup 2 tyres on my GT3 and mine will wear inner edges on rear at around 4500 miles this includes 5 track days (Spa/Zandvoort). Mine was at -3 degrees rear camber.
Drop your rear camber setting down to just over -2 degrees and increase the front to -2.2 degrees (with new rear tyres) set front toe to 2 minutes toe in per wheel and set rear toe to 15 minutes toe in per wheel.
What suspension are you running and what is condition of toe arms ?

I am not going to argue with Mike as he knows much, but I would add that from my experiences what I would recommend for a 997 is to take the front camber to -3 with 0 toe and leave your rear at -2.5 with 15 mins per side of toe in. Don't bother with the Cup+ again though. Cup 2 is available (N rated too if you have warranty renewal concerns) for your car and the wear rate is much better. I find that going to RS sized (245/35R19) fronts improves turn in too. I have about 5000 miles and 8 track days on that setup on Cup2 (although some of those were wet and some at the 'ring) with plenty of life still left.

Stevie not sure if your doing drift days or track days Recently fitted a set of CUPS with -2 on front and -2.5 rear camber. Only covered 1500miles and the rears are just about shot. Your rear wear rate for the Cup+ tyre is off the scale (as in way wrong). my advice is get the geo checked by someone experienced with such cars, maybe Rory @ Knockhill.
For the record on Cups, for an out & out performance point on track the original Cup tyre is still the best in dry conditions. Cup+ only holds advantages in wet conditions & wear rates.
I did a set of rear cups once in 1500 miles when I first got the car. 997 gt3, when I had the geo checked the figures were similar to your set up. I'd look at changing them to what Mike recommends he set up my car. You could go up to -2.5 at the front and -2 at the rear, I found this camber set up best on the 997 for wear. At present car has -3.1 front and 2.5 rear works well but the fronts are taking to much hammer on the inner edge especially on the drivers side. So I wouldn't suggest -3 up front. What tracks where the 100m completed on?

I think you meant Cup2's at the end there, Ade
