ITs newer
ITs more powerful
ITs got a "nicer" interior
ITs more tuneable
ITs more likely to be under warranty
ITs got better gadgets
ITs going to be much easier to get parts
ITs still going to look a little like the 997
ITs power difference is marginal < 3%

ITs interior doesn't reflect the 993's as does the 997

ITs tuneability is subjective, quite a few 600bhp 993turbos around

ITs warranty is available for the 993tt thru OPCs

ITs more likely to be loaded with more gimmicks

ITs just as easy to get 993 parts but you'll need them less

ITs more likely to suffer larger depreciation

ITs not based on 993 looks unlike the 997 which is

ITs definetly going to cost more to buy

You can't beat a bit of genuine objectivity, bereft of bias, what-o Jamie?

Oddly enough, I agree: the 996 is far superior in every way, it really is frustrating for those of us unfortunate enough to be saddled with six figures' worth of expenditure sunk into something which, when push cometh to shove, is being outrun by medium paced shopping trolleys these days.
Having said that, it doesn't always hold. I think the nicest Porsche I've ever been in was a 993RS (God knows which variant but a proper factory car, bewinged with all trackee accoutrements).
Funny thing was, it came not moments after having been in a 996GT3-RS which although undoubtedly wonderful, was undeniably less of a buzz than it's illustrious forbear.
Then again, many Porsche cogniscents agree that the 993RS is/was the best 911 ever so my impression is merely additional grist to their millstone.
So stick that in your fuse box and stay casual.
Yep, the 996 is superior in every way. Though doesn't have the raw, slightly edgy character of the 993.
Like Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five sang of the 993 turbo:
Don’t push me ‘cause I’m close to the edge
I’m tryin’ not to lose my head, huh, huh, huh, huh
It’s like a jungle, sometimes it makes me wonder
How I keep from goin’ under
The values of late 993 and early 996 TT cars are closing quite quickly too. I am not sure if they will ever converge though, like late 993 and early 3.4 996 cars have.
DeR, was the RS you speak of the yellow one at Brunters in June? I believe it was a full on clubsport model, hence the roll cage, harnesses and bi plane rear spoiler. I had a ride too and the intensity of the experience was incredible. Though I am sure the light weight kevlar underpant wearing Domster or Clubsport will be along shortly to correct any inaccuracies above

Before Dom and Paul arrive, i have to ask, an RS in yellow? I'm guessing that was the 993 then? I thought the 996 RS was only available in white, with blue bits or red bits?

Hang on, for the price of a decent RHD 996 turbo you can pick up a LHD 993 GT2...

I guess it's each to is own. I've never wanted anything other than a 993TT and now i've got one, I still don't want anything other than a 993TT.
No matter how fast or looky likey the 997 999 or anything else is, I'll still want my TT!
Newer does not equal better
Faster does not equal better
Having looked at I think Dazren's 996TT profile sums it up for me; £30K in depriciation 32 months!

Define "Better"
Well,
In better, i am going only by what i have read, as although i own 996TT, i have never driven 993TT, so would be unfair to give direct comparisons.
But having said that, i believe the improvements to be to do with the 4 wheel drive system and general driving dynamics, as well as the vast improvements on the modernity of the interior, which although is not to everyones liking, is certainly more up to date.
I'm certainly not diss'ing the 993 as i dreamt of owning one for a long time, but i don't think Porsche would have brought out a totally new model without making all round improvements.

Yes the car DeR mentions is a 993 RS. It belongs to a mate of Clubsport (Paul) and this machine attended the Vmax before the last one.
As I remember, it wasn't a Clubsport, but it did have the Clubsport wings. The cage was black and I think it had carpets, so basically it is a "more extreme" Comfort model, if you get my meaning.
The car doesn't half get around though. It's always in photos in the Porsche Club mag attending some track day or other. DeR said the driver was very good, as did Paul.
Greg, have not been smoking the Bob Hope, am probably just happy of the forthcoming time off work.
VS, yes it was a 993. The driver was a track guru also, and drove like a warrior.
I think in general the whole 993 vs 996 TT comes down to if you want probably the most accessible, competent, and fastest cross country, daily driver super car then the 996 is for you. Dynamically it is superior to the 993.
Though I think the 993 is / will be an icon....the last air cooled and first 4WD turbo hewn from best German granite. The last of the old breed....and depending on your tastes this is a good or bad thing
