Early start...
I did one of these a couple of years ago when I picked up my 996.2 GT3 from 911Virgin.
The GT3 is all tucked up for the winter now and I needed a sensible family car with 4 seats to do the school run. I had a deposit down on a new M3 but the build kept getting pushed back and the reports coming out of the Evo camp during the eCOTY test weren't good and the residuals looked even worse as all the original demos hit the forecourts. So I pulled the plug on that and decided another 911 was a far better place to put my time and money.
So this morning I'm off to Bristol OPC this time to pick up the Seal Grey 997 GTS that was advertised down there.
Spec is:
997.2 Carrera 2 GTS
Manual
Alcantera with full leather
-20mm Sport PASM with locking differential
Adaptive sports seats
Bose
Extended Navigation
Audio interface
Adaptive headlights
Rear seats
RS Spyder wheels
I'm sure I've missed a few things but needless to say it looks the perfect spec to me. Even the perfect colour, as it's the same as I had specced on the M3.
The history looks spot on, with the first owner purchasing it from Dick Lovett in Swindon and running it for 3 years. The last two owners only had the car a short time each, with the benefit to me that on both occasions there was a decent amount of used car prep done prior to sale. The car has never been outside the Dick Lovett network so all work is easy to track.
Glen and the guys at Bristol have been very easy to work with and answered all my questions and queries, providing print outs of service history, ECU records including over-revs (it's a manual after all), geo report and everything else I've asked for.
So I'm sat on the train heading down there to pick it up. Then straight up to Anglesey to hopefully get some laps in providing some pax laps to help out the Mission Motorsport fundraiser they have up there this weekend.

So from Bristol the GTS and I took our inaugural drive up to Anglesey to see some folk at the Mission Motorsport Supercar Saturday. I had originally planned to take my GT3 to give some pax laps to visitors, but that was scuppered due to new car collection. In the end I got there too late to give any rides. But what a great event it looked. Good luck to the boys participating in the Race of Remembrance tomorrow. Hope the weather is better than today!
Got there just before sunset.
Car was already dirty from a diabolical drive from Bristol. Up the A5. Car was fantastic. Better than I ever expected it to be. Very cosseting, yet in no way boring. The manual shift is the best I have ever felt in any car. Perfection. The engine is really tractable, though 7200rpm feels too low, especially after being used to the 8000rpm on offer with the GT3. Everything else in the car just works.
From there back home to Cheshire. Weather still awful but the heated seats are mega and the Bose stereo sounded great. All in all a long but thoroughly enjoyable day.
Hopefully many more of those to come.
