Hi everyone, only currently driving the GT3 at weekends and that's only if the weather is nice. How good is the battery in a GT3? How long can I expect to leave it for and be able to start it when I get in it?

Looking at getting a trickle charger too for when the winter really sets in, anyone got any recommendations? What other winter prep should I look at doing? Car is garaged so is it just a case of keeping it on a charger?

If it's anything like a 996 GT3 then it will go flat in a few weeks.
Most people use the CTEK trickle charger that just plugs into the cigarette lighter. Does the job.

996 cig socket is always live.
997 is switched on the ignition so you need to connect the charger directly to the battery.

Progress, eh? rolleyes

That's not my experience - I was fine using the cigarette socket with a CTEK on my 997 GT3s.

991s are indeed not live when ignition is off.

Cheers

Ctek straight into the cigarette lighter on my 997. Works for me.

Hmm, good to know that at least some are wired direct. A friend had one that definitely wasn't confused

I leave mine 3 weeks sometimes and always seems to be fine.

Over the winter it's left on an optimate plugged straight into the cigarette lighter.

Paul.

My Boxster 987.2S has now become a third car as is used somewhat infrequently. I'm going to look into a trickle charger but the need to drive it to keep the battery alive is an excuse that I wouldn't mind having. In a similar theme to the OP therefore, what kind of frequency/length should the car be driven to ensure good battery condition?

Ah, that could be it - ISTR we were trying to use the one in the dashboard; it was a while ago so the memory is a bit hazy on the details.

Be aware that standard batteries don't like deep cycle operation (as opposed to "Leasure" type). Running very low and then charging up will reduce their life and therefore using a trickle charger/conditioner is always best IMO.

Both my 997.1 GT3 and 997.2 GT3RS worked with an Optimate plugged directly into the cig socket of the ashtray. You just have to leave the window open a crack to let the lead through.

Shut the door on the lead of a Ctek. works on a 986 and a 997.

Anyone got a link to the cigarette lighter charger?

I've searched CTEK but they all seem to have 2 crocodile clips?
