Hi Everyone,

First post on the site so hello one and all.

OK - i've already booked my build slot for (my first porsche) a New 987 Boxter S for April with (hopefully) May delivery so soon the OPC want the final spec. I don't have loads of money for extras (say 7K) but in my own mind have the following down :-

19" carrera s wheels / sports seats / PCM / BOSE + wind deflector / cruise control / park assist / Bi-xenon lights / heated seats / 6 cd changer / sports steering wheel / basalt black paint.

OK - as its my first Porsche any suggestions as to whether my selections OK or whether I'd be better changing options (all opinions welcome & no offence taken - honest)

Cheers

Don

Seems like a nice set.

On the 986 they offered a gear level upgrade to aluminium and leather - its really nice - so consider that.

Errrm. Yes heated seats a must as is the Wind Deflector. Bose you could live without - the Porsche upgrade is good enough and why listen to music with the top down and the flat six howling!

Errrm. I got (on my 986)

Litronic - these are good.
Heated seats. Sports seats (good)
Full leather (nice but 2K) - I've seen it without and its fine.
Ali Gearknob
Painted Roll Bars in exterior colour - A MUST!

Errrm. I didn't bother with park control (how hard is that really!) and didn't get cruise (why? in Britain?).

You say you are getting PCM? Sure its good and everything but its a 2.5K option.

You didn't say you are getting PSM (stability control). Buying a car without this is MAD! Buy it, buy it, buy it. Its only £800 or something and is FANTASTIC!

Excellent! So it should be!

Is PASM an option? If so - buy it! If it helps the car the way PSM did/does on the 986 its a MUST!

Ali gearknob looks nice, but too hot to touch in summer and too cold in winter.

Dump the PCM. Buy Tomtom / Navman and a bluetooth handsfree instead!

PASM is Active Suspension and is new. PSM is Stability Management and is a very advanced form of traction control. Since you're getting it as standard that's fine. Now I've tried my car with PSM on and PSM off. With PSM on it will get you out of scrapes without interfering - brilliant. So I'm guessing that the PASM feature will also be excellent. Personally I'd have PASM over anything cosmetic. Although I did end up putting 18" wheels on mine (when 17" were standard).

Don't agree. My first BoxS didn't have the ali gearknob and my current one does. Its lovely. It has also never been uncomfortable to touch at any time...

Mine has, frequently. I do park mine in summer with the top down in the sun. On really hot days I have had to use finger tips to change as it almost burnt me. Looks lovely, but I would choose a different material were I to buy again.

It's only a problem on a few days of the year in extreme heat or cold.
