Bose or Not in 991?

Currently on my must have list is a Bose sound system, not heard a 991 without, should I really discount cars without it?

2 years ago I discounted a perfect spec car because it didn't have Bose too.. In hindsight I think it was a mistake. The sound system should be decent enough already for radio/basic MP3 use. And if you really find it wanting you could switch to good quality speakers stealthily enough.

Sounds a bit stupid but the 991 makes such great noises that I would rather switch the radio off and the PSE on and just enjoy the engine.

You can upgrade standard 991 speakers relatively easily (because they are 4 Ohms which is the same as aftermarket speakers) but there is a limit to how good they will ever sound with the limited power from the standard system driving them and the lack of a subwoofer of any kind.

I wouldn't rule out a non Bose car as long as you are happy to either compromise with the standard system or have some work done to improve it.

A change of speakers to some half decent aftermarket ones and maybe a very small powered sub if you can sacrifice the space space will not cost much at all.

The Bose system in the 991 is far superior to the one in the 997 but still nowhere near the Burmester. Would i discount a car without it? I personally would because I don't think much to the standard systems but its all down to how much you like your music and whether you want to risk your warranty by going aftermarket from the base system.

I wouldn't bother as there are still other noises interfering with the sound of the hifi. Stick with the standard unit and buy a good home stereo (like I have).

I would like to see how an OPC would see the swapped speakers hidden behind fixed grills when they are trying to solve your exhaust stock on closed-valve-position.. or other serious issues.. maybe rattles would be the area that can be debated but still doubt the OPC technician would be able to see the difference inbetween porker and non-porker speakers..

warranty would be the least of my worries.. I would indeed enquire about better speakers to be fitted, you might not achieve Bentley type quality sound system but I could bet that the result would be better than factory Bose.. and frankly.. who needs massive power stereo in a sports car.. decent quality would be more than enough for me
