Cayenne OEM Warranty v RAC warranty

Hi all.

Wonder if anyone could help me decide....

I have just put a deposit on a 2011 Cayenne 3.0 v6d from a Land Rover franchise dealer.

It has a FPSH but unfortunately I missed the option to extend the previous owners warranty by a day! Gutted.

The Porsche dealer the car originated from said I can get a Porsche warranty if I take the car in to them after 3 months of ownership, and pay £1500 or so for the 11 point check and resulting warranty. On passing I can then have the warranty for a year included in that price.

The car comes from the Land Rover dealer with an RAC warranty (which necessitates an 80 or so point check). It's the gold warranty from RAC but I have the option to upgrade it to the platinum.
Which covers things like air suspension and turbos in addition to the Gold - but it hasn't got air suspension so I'm not sure if it's worth it.

My queries are:

1) Should I pay the extra after 3 months to get the official Porsche warranty put on with the 111 point check and incur the expense of any issues the 111 check shows.

or if I stick with the RAC warranty:

2) Should I upgrade to the Platinum from the Gold...does anyone know the difference?

Once a used car becomes 3 years old, almost all warranties offered are insurance based, so don't have the level of cover of a manufacturer's unlimited warranty. I would suggest reading the terms of both the Porsche used car warranty and the RAC Gold/Platinum one, and compare levels of cover. Both warranties should have all labour costs covered, but there may be claim value limits per claim, and there may also be exclusions to wear and tear items, electricals etc.

The RAC warranty is also upgradeable to 12 or 24 months, and will be considerably cheaper than the Porsche equivalent....but do check what level of cover is offered.

Also check that the car has not been modified in anyway before going for a Porsche Warranty. If it has any non-Porsche approved part fitted, for example a BOSCH battery (which could actually be better than the Porsche one), they may refuse to give you the warranty unless you change it, OR they will sell it to you and if you claim they reserve the right to reject the claim.

As above read the small print... I could not buy a warranty for my Boxster because I had a better stereo fitted and Paintshield film applied - I have saved over £5k so far over the years.

With that car and the proven VAG V6 diesel I'd run it without a warranty and keep the money aside to cover any issues myself if any arise, which also means it's possible to avoid OPC prices for services etc.
