I have just bought a 1998 996 C2.

It has 993 turbo wheels fitted and needs two new rear tyres, it is currently running 265/35/18 pilot sport 2 tyres.

I have been looking online and read that the 996 C2 is supposed to run 285/30/18 so shall I fit these to my 993 turbo wheels or put two new 265/35/18 on there?

Also are there any Toyo tyres that are suitable for Porsches? I can get these at trade so if there are then great.

How nessessary is it to use Porsche 'N rated' tyres? I assume it is otherwise they wouldn't say so... but then they were specificed 18 years ago now so has modern tyre tech moved to meet the same standards?

There are several widths of HS wheel manufactured for Porsche and I would try to identify the J size first.

Regarding N rating - I think the search button should produce enough squit to sink the Titanic!

I'll have a look when I get home on the J size.

In regard to N-rated I have had a search and opinion seems to be divided!

The Toyos i was thinking of using were the T1 Sport, has anyone tried these?

996.1 3.4 cars had 265 width rear tyres. 996.2 3.6 cars had 285 width rear tyres. Profiles adjusted accordingly, I can't rememebr the exact profile.
As you have different wheels fitted then it is best to find out the width of these before deciding on what tyres to fit.

Many thanks, mine is a 996.1 so OEM tyres would be what is fitted (265/35/18).

I'll check the width of the wheels and the OEM tyre size that they would have come with but the tyres look correct on them.

The main concern I had in regard to tyre size was if I had 265 tyres on the back some something that was supposed to have 285's on!

I fitted a set of Toyo T1 Proxes Sport tyres to a Lamborghini Gallardo I owned.

Really brilliant performing tyres , but not the best for wear .

Never run a 911 on them , but no doubt someone on here has.
