I`ve read the other threads on people looking to get into ownership and like a lot of people i`m a bit confused by it all..... some great help from the forum though!
I`m interested in a C4S, not sure why just like them but wondering if i`m getting caught up in mileage v age.
Budget is around 25k and there are a couple on autotrader around 40k miles for that sort of budget. Sadly looking at a lot of the sites reccomended they don`t have a great deal around that price area.
Have seen this but as i live in Kent it`s a little too far to visit

I keep reading about versions, engine issues etc etc. Hoping there`s either an idiots guide or it can be summarised easily enough. Do i need a 4s or will something else be as good...
The only consideration for me is it has to have the seats in the back as i intend to chuck the daughter in it as well as the wife!

To my mind the C4S in your post is fairly expensive, given that I sold a good spec, 1-owner, 997 C4S with similar mileage including 18 month year Porsche warranty for around £27k and that was 18 months ago. I would have expected prices to fall further since then, making that car around £25k now.

I've never really understood the 996 C4S - you seem to get some of the stuff the turbo has, pay almost as much as you would for a turbo but.... not get a turbo. I guess if you really hate turbos and prefer NA they make sense, but other than that (especially with the known engine issues the OP seems already aware of) I'd be looking for a turbo at that price.

FWIW, I've always found Kenny friendly, helpful and good to deal with (nearly bought a restored SC off him last year) - haven't been in to his showroom since this C4S came in though but his stock looks decent quality.I`m interested in a C4S, not sure why just like them but wondering if i`m getting caught up in mileage v age.

I joined the fraternity a couple of years ago, so my current (997.2 C2S) is, so far, my only Porsche. it's also far and away the best drivers car I've ever owned. As I live in the Highlands I, like you, started out looking for a C4S, and presumably for similar reasons of usability. Having driven multiple examples of both, I'd certainly not diss the C4S - it's a hugely competent car and appears great for all weather peace of mind. However, the "but…" is that it feels, to me at least, too 'normal' - hugely planted and massively grippy but lacking the feel and delicacy that makes a 2WD 911 so unique a driving experience. I did have an exchange with a C2S owner who used his for winter climbing trips up here and I finally decided to go the 2WD route. I don't regret it: grip is stupendous in all weathers and, with winter tyres on, it is way way better than any of my RWD BMWs in snow and ice. In fact, it's a complete hoot in the snow, right up to the point where the radiator ducts pack with snow… I think that if I'd bought the C4S, I'd be very pleased with it but would still have a 2WD itch that I needed to scratch. The 2WD also has a usefully larger boot, which may be a consideration. I also started out looking for a 997.1 but, uncertain about engine issues (although I accept that it's only a small percentage of cars), I finally ponied up for a Gen 2 car, planning to keep it for a long, long time. Having driven a few now, don't ignore the 3.4/3.6 cars either - yes, you have to work them a little harder, but they are still and joy to drive (and arguably more rewarding at realistic road speeds), as well as being considerably cheaper and appearing to suffer to a lesser extent from the 996/7 IMS/RMS/bore issues.I`m interested in a C4S, not sure why just like them but wondering if i`m getting caught up in mileage v age.

Lower mileage does not equal better reliability, probably the opposite in fact. The car you linked to doesn't even have PSE which is a must at that price.
£25k might get you into a 996 Turbo and will easily get a nice 997. If it's a 996 C4S, you can get a very good example for under £20k, no need to spend that much.
