Cup holder for pre facelift 996

Has anyone found a good solution to the lack of cup holders in the 996.1?

You can buy them on eBay...the Porsche OEM parts clip onto the near & offside dash board vents...you can see the holes...

Dont do it!! i also have an old school mrk1 996. Never liked the vent clip on ones. they are ugly and will probably damage the very fragile vents, with weight and regular use. i have a feeling you will prefer these, they are discreet and fit in the footwell so low centre of gravity and excellent to reduce spils. I am just about to order a set, just waiting to find out on shipping to UK.

As an alternative, it's not too difficult to fit the 996.2 centre console, with the cup holders already integrated...

the built in ones ones positioned next to a/c controls? would not risk having open drinks near important electrics.

I've got the genuine Porsche one, it doesn't put any strain on the vents 2 prongs to into the side and one into the bottom of the air vent but nothing touches or rests on the slats. It's removable and folds flat for storage if you don't want to leave it in place.

+1 Had them for 5 years in my GT3 and never came close to damaging the vents. And you can remove them easily when you don't want them

I have just searched eBay for Porsche cupholder and nothing like this comes up. Are you able to post a link to the one that you found?

You can get them at design911 http://www.design911.co.uk/pages/productList.aspx?... get most parts from there. they are £25 plus delivery. Might consider them now they are removable as mentioned and dont cause issues for vents but i do like the fact these ultiamte ones in link are much more discreet and have good reviews I also contacted business owner and he says that he has had no issues from 996 customers. so think I will try them out if no good will get clip in ones.

I have bought one of the OEM air vent cupholders for my 2000 996 C4 cab. However, I cannot see any fixing holes. Do I have to make some holes, or should they ready be there?

That is very kind of you. It looks like there are 3 holes. I guess that I can just make 3 holes with a 3mm drill.

Yeah there's one either side and then one at the bottom.

I'd start with as small a drill as you can and then sort of elongate it, the factory holes are a rectangular sort of shape. A needle file would get the shape I guess ?

I'd consider buying some used vents with the slots already in (even if just to practice on or use as a template) rather than risk butchering your dashboard trying to do them in situ without a pattern to work from.
