The LOI....this would be well placed in the 'one thing that makes you think Knob' section, so apologies.
Utterly pointless. I have never written one, and always had the cars I've ordered as the local OPC is an honourable operation. Others I know, exactly the same. Never written one.
I decide I would like the car, I visit, sign the Order Form and pay a deposit.
What makes some think that writing an ambiguous letter, that states they have an interest in purchasing a vehicle not yet released, & lifts them above the great unwashed in the pecking order, is staggering.
Why does this still happen ?.

what about the rest of us if 30 people want a car and only 5 available,
Porsche cannot take a deposit as the car was not real, so that leaves LOI to get you on a OPC waiting list.
if one had waited till the 4th Feb launch day and I went in and asked for a GT4 I would have been told all sold !

Guess it can't hurt, if you're an enthusiast and really want it why not register your interest.
I wouldn't mention a LOI publically though (that does should knob), better to get it confirmed and then join in the spec talk.

Exactly! Must say it made me laugh when I got a notification via email from from Porsche saying the new Cayman GT4 had been announced. If I had rang up my local dealer at that point and said "hello, I would like to buy one" I would have been laughed at and told they were all gone!
I've started doing a few more track days so went into an OPC to enquire about 991 GT3 RS. I've bought two new cars from the salesman (who's a top man Richard Lane at West London) one of which I still own 8 years later and the other which I wish I'd kept with hindsight.
I'd have more chance of winning the national lottery lol. Crazy as I bet the cars end up being flipped at JZM or Romans and customers.

I'm no VIP I can assure you, but then no dribbling 'must have' PITA either. I simply ring, receive an email Order form attachment, sign it and pay the deposit when due. No issue at all, and I've always got the car.
It very much depends how you treat your OPC in my view. If you are courteous, not a known 'flipper' and don't warrant a 'red phone' on the salesman's desk, then you will get a car, in my experience anyhow.
If not....then you may well be filed with Colin Hunt and the LOI lot...and good luck.

If only everyone was treated fairly. But at the end of the day it's just a car and in the last 2.5 years many people I know have dropped dead. Nothing lasts forever. Have fun
