Does allocating only 4 GT4's per OPC harm Porsche's rep?

Having looked at the posts of angst on the GT4 discussion thread (and RS), are Porsche taking the concept of the Halo Cayman model too far?
The Halo Cayman, in engineering terms is here for sure, the marketing, the PR bumf, the dedicated page on the Porsche Website talking the product up and yet, when it comes to actually acquiring a car, it seems there are only 4 per OPC, 4 cars !
So, does this approach hurt Porsches reputation more than help it when we know their Boxster/Cayman factories can pump out thousands per year? Does the situation merely drive enthusiasts to other brands out of frustration? What's the point of a cheaper GTx car, if they are so limited, that many enthusiasts can't get one and end up in an Exige or other alternative?
It certainly does in my mind, but I agree that its a UK specific phenomenon, driven in part I believe by the UK specific trend of used GT3 prices. I think Porsche GB need to take a good long look at themselves and put a stronger case to PAG for a larger allocation for the UK market, certainly for the next few years while Europe sorts its economy out again.

Yes it is an issue. As a minimum I think they have a responsibility to offer a car to anyone who put in a LOI prior to launch and from who Porsche has taken a deposit. If those people are not supplied a car because the DP decides otherwise then that is not good business that builds a brand. There clearly has to be a cut off somewhere? Porsche should have told dealers of allocation before they decided to phone around for lots of deposits. Have you tried to order a turbo Macan .
OPC were getting less than 4 !
It is all about a want factor, it's quite hardcore, most people don't want them.
We have , what 10 unhappy forum people who failed to get one.
I think more people are unhappy about trying to get a Macan.

Eventually they will get a Macan Turbo might take 2 years but life of GT4 is limited to c 12 months production ? Either way not great for the brand in UK OPC were getting less than 4 !

They are just using the same recipe arent they? Stirring buyers emotions is FAR more profitable than apathy. OPC were getting less than 4 !

Have you seen the new Mondeo ad? They are selling the car based on some er... 'clever headlights'. I was shouting at the TV when I first saw it. This is a differentiator and builds desire?
Porsche are the masters at this stuff.
Sports car manufacturer in limited production of a limited model shocker! Why is this surprising to anybody, numbers have been limited as far back as Porsche (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston etc) have been making small release unique 'specials'. The difference is that the demand is now higher, one reason maybe being because more people want these models as the residuals are better than the standard car. In fact with a GT4 you are probably guaranteed free motoring for a year or two, maybe even a profit like with the current GT3.

This 100%If it were a normal model, Porsche would not have taken 400/500 deposits.
If it's 4 cars ,it's 4 cars. That doesn't bother me. What does is when you pay a deposit & are told you are a certain number in the queue, then the numbers come out- & you're now nowhere!!
Difficult as the situation may be for the opc, I'm self employed & to me that's not how business works.
If a customer etc is on the ball- ahead of the crowd- is a genuine known customer (past or present)- he/she should get a car if they're in the 4.
I can't see how anyone in this situation could hand over their "hard earned "with any contentment or satisfaction to the same opc for a different car in the future.
These escapades will definitely sour things for the future. But maybe they're not that bothered.For every 1 of us genuine "car people", there's at least 10 eager diesel 4×4 punters.

I cannot get my head around the whole debacle, build enough for 30 per dealer this year and then all the speculators disappear, leaving only real customers who actual want the car left to buy them.
I would buy my GT4 tomorrow if I could, then chop it in for a GT3 RS, then probably go for a GT4 RS next year, I have the money here ready to go. Porsche will not sell me any of these cars, the only way I can buy one will be paying £30,000 over list from some random on PistonHeads.

Look at the emotion its causing, the excitement, the prolonged discussions on forums, the anger, etc etc. All this leads to huge desire and status. It builds the brand via the very core of the worst of mans basic desires.

TBH as someone said before - as the entry level GT car you would have thought they would make them more readily available in a key market like the UK, particularly at the low list price point - certainly seems odd - its absolutely on purpose - for whatever weird reason.
For me this type of 'antics' means that my 'quids' may end up in another marques coffers when I come to my next car - I think if we were talking about 918s, P1's and LaFs - then this limitation and rationing is justified - but these non RS vehicles probably shouldn't be in rarified air.
