cost of IMS resolve?

on the verge of buying a 997.1 i am wanting to know what it would cost (approx) to replace the ims with ceramic or whatever! i don't really want to risk holding out until the car needs a new clutch fitting. BAZ.... over to you.

The 'word' seems to be that Gen 2 997 engines are more reliable, but might that also be simply that there are not yet so many with higher mileages to know if or when issues might appear?

Don't get the two things confused. Gen 2 cars do not have an intermediate shaft in their engines (except for GT and turbo cars) and they've been around nearly 7 years with no significant failure levels.

the car in question is a 2007 carrera 3.6 . i was told that an upgrade ceramic bearing can be fitted to the later 997.1 engines. is this not so. would more frequent oil changes be beneficial? just for the record the car's done 40K.

Most owners that take any pride in their cars usually change the oil every year anyway. This is not so much as to extend the life of the IMS bearing (questionable as to whether it would anyway) but just for peace of mind.

now all i need to know is what the issue with the bores on the later 997.1? i understand i'm going over a lot of old ground for those of you that have owned these models previously but it's all relatively new to me. sorry.
