Access to the "halo cars" ?
Discussion
Very few GT3s, very few GTRSs, hardly any GT4s and minimal supply of Boxster Spyders
Seems Porsche are playing a great PR campaign by restricting the supply of their halo cars
All good but means that Mr Joe Average can't get one
Even having a name on a list with a deposit is no guarantee
Not the fault of the dealers as they can't supply the demand
Real shame as it plays into the hands of the specialist reseller to make a profit along with buyers who just flip the car

Not only can you not get one, they also got a lot more expensive than the old models. Over 35% in the case of the "baby Porsches".
The real winners are of course the owners of the previous models. High demand, low numbers, no depreciation. The Rolex of cars. Not sure whether that is a good or bad thing, SO FAR it has worked for them...

I think you'll find Mr Joe Average probably doesn't have a clue what these Halo cars are let alone the financial clout to buy one. In reality I think you mean that you are upset that PAG has not enabled enough people to jump on this speculation merry-go-round and therefore many here are stomping their feet for missing out on the kerching. If they were more readily available and with that average depreciation was factored into the equation, I don't think you would be quite so interested in these cars.

Only if they sell for that. Loads to choose from now, so why would you pay asking price anymore? 7 on porsche site, a dozen more on PH. Party's over.I agree the RS will attract a big premium to begin with until a manual one comes out in a couple of years.

+1 Spot on.Too many people moaning because they can't get on the gravy train.
Looking forward to the day it ends.

Sad, this makes the pre-73 early 911s look cheap in comparison. Back then they engineered cars to be the best they can be, today it seems like the PAG board comes together every few months to build a car that is highly desirable for collectors.
For proof look a.) at the difference in 'ring times of a 997.2 GT3 RS vs a 991 GT3 vs 991 GT3 RS on the same tyres (there is none) and b.) at the milage of the cars in the screenshot.
Don't even get me started on the Cayman GT4 with its oh so great GT3 heritage. A month later the Spyder (aka Boxster GTS 3.8) comes along with the same engine, minus those fancy Weissach track parts and posts a completely identical time around the Nordschleife once take the wider and stickier MPSC2 tyres out of the equation.
Porsche has turned into a marketing company that happens to build great sports cars as a side business.

There is some truth to that...Of course there is, I am ave Joe , I don,t buy new cars, cars like these allow me a treat and buy new knowing they are safe money.
Other wise I always have to wait 2/3 years to buy.
Many ave joe are getting GT4 's.
If there were 400 made then I would NOT have bought one and got one 25k cheaper 2 years later.

As much as you might like to think you are average Joe; £65k+ is not something Joe would call a treatOther wise I always have to wait 2/3 years to buy.

A dream or lottery win would be closer to the mark.
An element of perspective seem to be missing in this section of the forum!

I glad the likes of the Meccan and Boxster sales mean cars like the gt3 can get the R&D they need.Back then they engineered cars to be the best they can be, today it seems like the PAG board comes together every few months to build a car that is highly desirable for collectors.

However I don't understand the porsche supply and demand model, unless the GTx, spiders etc are a PR tool to ensure they get airtime and punters through the door.
Fair play to porsche, if it wasn't for the change in quality approach and the boxster it would have been RIP. I happy they feel they can produce such a plather of top end models supported by mass produced Chelsea tractors.
Once the initial feeding fest dies down, the GT3/RS etc will be sound investments if that floats your boat. I'm much happier in a daily 911 that I can enjoy in all weathers - today especially without concern on the investment return.

Thats because we are all rich, well most if us, there are some Boxster owners on this forum.A dream or lottery win would be closer to the mark.

It is a UK issue. Last time I looked there were still new 991 GT3s available in Germany - starting at £105k
Can't see how RHD premium can be maintained in the longer term - feels like UK overheating (as our car market has done more than any other in the past). But who knows? I certainly don't.

It would appear LHD markets are acting more conventionally
