Right colour, wrong colour

Hi,
Just a quick visit over from the Corvette Forum as a favour to a mate/colleague of mine.
He's considering buying a Porsche in Speed Yellow. He's also heard that you can buy cars that are the wrong colour especially when it comes to the time for selling it on. Not knowing the colour Speed Yellow I couldn't advise him but I've now seen a couple of pics and I feel that this is what could be considered one of the right colours.
Can I get views from the Porsche collective here please?
PS. Sorry, can't post a link to the pics as I don't have access to a hoster, but could email privately if needed.

This has been debated many times. It's got to come down to personal prefference unless you're buying a pink C GT or something silly.

Yes, agreed, debated many times and subject to individuals' preferences.
But I know there are unfashionable colours, just wondered but doubted this speed yellow was unfashionable in the world of Porsches.
FWIW, Aceparts I think that colour of yours is quite tasteful.

Thanks, it is an acquired taste, I still love 911's in black, gives them a slightly evil look. Speed yellow on a sunny day does actually hurt your eyes and when stationary on a sunny day every insect in the world comes to rest on the car

FWIW, when i was looking for my car, I turned down for the same £40K, a polar siler, 1996, 38K miles, blue leather interior car with 4 previous owners for my arena red 37K miles with classic grey and 8 previous owners!
Two years on I have no regrets. If I have to sell it I may have to take a financial kick in!
1) Buy on condition
2) Buy a car that floats YOUR boat as you'll be paying the bills.
3) don't take any car buying advice from me

It will be very easy to for you to reduce the res. in your photo sofware that probably came with your camera.
Honestly, it's a case of "if I can do it, anyone can".

Don't know about the camera or your suspension, but some of the brickwork looks a bit rough
The easy answer-some Porshces look wonderful in speed yellow (eg 968 CS and Boxster S) and especially in the right setting (say california). In the UK the "numptiness factor" means that most people are unable to think beyond silver and black and so the speed yellow is always a no go. To sell the car it has to be cheaper-say by 10%-15%. When you come to sell you have to make it as cheap again.
Kamal996 - I'm not being funny, nasty or sarcastic, or anything really. I did ask the forum for this. I have for a long time associated this mid to bright yellow colour as a bit racey, and therefore one of the right colours. Is your post based on some known facts, or your estimate, or your opinion?

Okay, so LA is consistent with Kamal996, these comments are definitely worthy then of consideration. Given this info, I suppose, and it's the usual conclusion to this type of debate, the individual may still feel the colour works on the car for that particular individual. If you like it enough you'll buy it and take the hit. But if you have the self control (i.e. tightar$e) you'll resist if it means you might take a hit on the resale.

The orient red TT post from last week is worth a read, you'll find that some like certain colours and other don't, it's all down to personal taste.
IMHO loud colours such as speed yellow, riviera blue and zanzibar red look great as long as they're on GT3, TT, RS, GT2, etc cars. They don't seem to look quite right on boxsters, C2s or C4s where the 'restrained' colours are possibly more appropriate.

Yes AC, I saw that post, it stuck in my mind, I was quite surprised by it but then again it's merely a fact that some colours are more popular than others. Then there's the reality of the fashionable aspect to colours. So when my mate asked me the colour impact on the resale of the car he was looking at, HA, I thought, I know, I'll ask the experts.
So thanks for that guys, you're input has definitely helped.
I can confirm that he bought the car this morning, and more happily I can tell you he bought the car for the right reason - that is, cos he liked the car, the exterior colour and the interior - NOT for the resale value impact.
Top man I say.
the only reason to buy a car is because you like it. - pretty much like most things in life, if your happy then it matter not what others may think or say.
You never win on cars, hope your friend enjoys and has fantasic drives in it. Yellow is great. I wave at all 911's but will reserve the special fanatic wave for the next yellow one I see !!
