tt drive shunt
Discussion
Had a drive of 2 996tt 2002 and 2003 spec from an opc.
One had a feel of a drive shunt ie when you accelerate there is a small thud felt now and again from what I think may the the drive shaft engaging with the power is first applied, where as the other with more miles but 1 owner did not appear to have this.
It was on a car with under 8000 miles but 2 owner. Im worried that it may have been driven unsympathetically ( as opposed to hard) if its had 2 owners in such a short time or is a bit of a lemon car?
Should I be worried by 2 owners in 8000 miles?
and should there be a bit of a thud/take up feel in the drive on a 2003 tt

If I had driven two cars - one with shunt and one without I think I'd come to the conlusion that the one with shunt shouldn't be like that.
Maybe the clutch is on the way out....our Chimaera (which has TVRs somewhat agricultural drive train) suffers from some shunt. A new clutch transformed the car, whilst not eliminating the problem...

Don,
You should get in touch with a company called Bailey Morris if the drive shunt bothers you.
They can reproduce your prop with something called a "Torque Resilient Tube" (TRT).
Trust me, it's impressive. Basically put one prop inside another with a rubber bond between the two. The rubber acts like a shock absorber in the prop.

One owner is better than two, but cars of this nature generally have more owners with lower miles on the clock. The people who buy TT’s can afford to change there cars more often. Out of the last 3 cars I've owned, I've done less than 5k in each before I sold them and there wasn't anything wrong with any of the cars, I just got bored with them. I wouldn't worry about it to much. Do your research and go on the condition and Service History of car. Speak to the previous owner too.

will the opc give out the details of the previous owners? is this listed on the V5 and then write to them.
