I'm looking to buy a 997(2) Turbo or Turbo S.
There seems to be about £8-10k difference between an OP dealer and the independents. Irrespective of an independents reputation, I will probably have any prospective car checked over by a specialist.

Can anyone recommend someone in the Sussex/Hants/Dorset area?

This really gets my goat. Why the heck should you need to get an inspection if your buying from an Indy?

They should be selling a decent car. There are few I'd buy from, and only those I have the confidence in to sell me a straight honest car.

You just shouldn't have to warrant the worry IMO

For me, why would you not? It costs several hundred pounds; a small fraction of the cost of a typical Porsche. It may throw up some stuff that's not immediately apparent (for either party). And if it does, worst case scenarios aside, it's usually fairly swiftly resolved for all concerned and the sale progresses along just fine.
If you're unlucky enough to need something sorted post sale, just the mere hassle of having to return somewhere to get a run-of-the-mill issue resolved (assuming appropriate service and goodwill) is a hassle a lot of folks could do without if it can all be resolved up front. Particularly if the distance is great.
Pays for itself to my mind, much like a house survey, though for different reasons.

I've had four done in the past and bought three of them. The one I didn't progress post inspection? Pretty glad I had an inspection done...

(But yeah, agree entirely that it shouldn't be necessary from an Indie!)

There are Indys, and then there are Indys . . . .not living in the UK for a long long time, but, nonetheless, scanning threads on here it is immediately apparent who (and who not) I would look to buy a car from.

9e up in Horley would do a very comprehensive look-over for you, and, if you won't be using OPC (to maintain warranty ) I would suggest considering them for future servicing & the inevitable upgrades you will try to avoid but be unable to resist yes

Yeah but as you and I know Wozy it's not always like that.

I used them to look over a GT3 for me, did a good enough job to stop me buying it, I'd use them again

Ditto for Ken & Crew at 9e - They are very good & highly recommend them - Especially with their 911 Turbo knowledge & experience
