Selling a car at auction...how did it go for you?

So I've got a car to sell and it's on here in the classifieds, but was wondering if its worth trying an auction? I'm not in a rush to sell, its got no hidden secrets, and is a top car but would I potentially get more for it (or less) by maybe trying an auction, is it a lot of bother selling via an auction, what are the hidden costs etc etc. I've always assumed it was a place for buyers to pick up a bargain and sellers to get rid of cars that wouldn't bear up to close inspection. I love an auction personally, the buzz of it all but what are your stories of an auction sale?

Sold 4 Porsches at "auction" ebay, 1p start, no reserve
From £12k all the way to £57k
(The company I work for sends 30k cars to auction a year)
With ebay, you get a long description, opportunity for the buyer to view and c10 days to create interest
Pure physical auction sites are a bit hit and mis, depends whose there on the day, if the car fails to sell it can quickly develop a stigma.....(if it keeps turning up on different days/sites)
If it's a run of the mill car and you want shut of it -WBAC
If it's a classic, ring a few traders and get bids from them....
If you are feeling brave - stick it on ebay, 1p start no reserve ...I sold a 993 4s coupe man, that way, achieved about 85% of what I could have via private sale.....or about 30% what it would be worth today
