steering wheel re-trim.

After umming and arrgghing whether to sell the GT3 or not I have decided that I can't see anything else out there that would float my boat enough to warrant selling.

With this in mind I think a few mods might be nice, my car currently has the leather sports steering wheel which I'm thinking of either having re-trimmed in alcantara or changing for a replacement alcantara wheel. Has anyone retrimmed in alcantara and how did it come out?

Royal steering wheels seem to be recommended, has anyone used them for this and has a picture of the finished product, the oem alcantara wheel seems to have feint lines on it like the leather wheel as below


Where as the picture on the royal steering wheels website looks a loot smother, almost like the BMW CSL steering wheel finish?



Anyone have any experience of this or can comment on how their OEM wheel looks in their car?

Here's one Jack did for my 1M Coupe.



He does do a cracking job. You can see the faint lines on my wheel too. I wouldn't get too hung up on them to be honest, Jack will probably charge you £150 IIRC. Get the price for an OE alcantara wheel off your local OPC and getting Jack to recover your wheel will begin to look a lot more appetising .......

IIRC you get a choice David, clearly it's easier just to cover over the existing material, but I think if you say you specifically want to retain the original rim thickness, Jack will remove the leather and then do the retrim.

And one he did for my 996T - thicker than standard but not really thick.
Was trimmed in dark blue alcantara which is a really good match for the roof lining

I have used Jack at Royal Steering Wheels for a steering wheel retrim and handbrake handle.

He does a great job. Looks just as good a factory finish.

Recommend. Good value too.

I've just had my RS Cup wheel done in charcoal alcantara with red stitching and a white band.
