Advise needed on a car

Interested in getting my first 911. The one attached seems nice. I do like the white colour. but wanted to know what resale value on white cars compared to black?

The dealer said he would do the pre-warranty check on the car and would fix anything needed, but I would have to pay the £1200 fee for the warranty.

The other thing that's worrying me is the mileage. I do about 6k miles per year and would probably sell in two years time. The mileage would be in the 70's by that time.

Firstly, beware posting links that include what could be your postcode - maybe re-do the search using your work postcode and then edit your original post accordingly.



The ad says it already has warranty, so if you just say "yes I'll buy the car at the asking price" then it must be included

However, be aware that it has to be a private sale for the warranty to legitimately transfer - if this a Sale Or Return (SOR) car then that's fine, if it's not then Trading Standards will want to know about the dealer's advertising practices.

Here's a summary of Porsche's warranty rules:
1) car must have been owned for 90 days before taking cover out
2) cover can transfer between private owners at any time (even the day after being taken out/renewed)
3) the car must be standard (how it left the factory)
4) it must pass the OPC (Official Porsche Centre) 111 point inspection - if it fails all work must be completed at the OPC
5) The 111 point check includes all tyres being N rated (Porsche approved) and all the same type and same N number (be it N0, N1 etc)

All that said, a Gen 2 not having a warranty wouldn't bother me that much, provided the car itself was OK.

I haven't looked at the market for these, but I would think there are enough available for you to judge this against value-wise. Bear in mind that a car from an OPC will include TWO years warranty, the check and a 4 wheel alignment, so could easily justify a price tag £2-3k higher than others (assuming you want the warranty).

If you want to work out the depreciation look at the values of cars that are two years older. Black vs white it's always in the eye of the beholder.
All second hand cars must come with warranty as per the sale of goods act, anything dealer giving less than 6 months is not following the guidelines.

Thanks for the advise. He has promised to do the 111 check before I buy it. I haven't seen the car yet so not even so I'll like it. Is the mileage too much for the price?

Sorry but that's nonsense. No dealer has to supply any warranty of any kind. However, in the event of an issue with the vehicle within the first six months it is the dealer's responsibility to prove that the fault wasn't present when the car was supplied.


To the OP:
The dealer putting the car through the check is fine but the warranty can only be purchased by you once you've owned the car for 90 days....and it will need to pass the check again. If it's a private sale that he's brokering then the warranty can be taken out now in the current owner's name and then transferred to you pretty much straight away.

White is fashionable at the moment so it is on trend ,for how long is another matter ! Whatever way you look at it ,that is a large sum of dosh.These pdk,s are coming down in price obviously the lower miles the better,They are not classics and quite a few unsold in the dealers right now, Just an observation!

I think if you are asking these questions then you have some reservations already.

What attracts you to this particular car? Price, spec, colour?

The fact that the car will have 70k on it in 2 years time would be an issue for me at that age of car. I think it will impact price more heavily then than now at 53k.

Spec is very good but why has the previous owner made it a GTS lookalike with badges and blacked mirrors. Wheel nuts are very rusty and the wheels and hubs don't look brilliant in the pictures (I am fussy). One owner is good as is FPSH. The others have already covered the warranty situation of buying from a dealer and not being able to transfer.

We all have budgets which I totally understand, but if you can stretch another 3-4k then Harbour Cars, Chichester have a nice Artic Silver version with a good spec, only 30k miles and a 2 year warranty. They also prepare their cars to a very high standard which is an added bonus and would probably cost you a few hundred quid as well. The other option if you can increase your budget is to look at OPC which would give you a 2 yr warranty as well.
