Considering change from BMW 330d x drive to Boxter but can't get anywhere with the authorised dealers. Have emailed and phoned 3 Scottish and 1 in the Midlands about cars listed in Autotrader and have asked for an idea what the exchange value would be for my car, In three of the cases the dealerships have BMW garages in their group so theoretically not difficult to get an idea and easy to place my car (only 20 months old), In every case after a seemingly helpful contact no response at all despite chase up emails. In the case of the local (Edinburgh) dealership I paid a visit and the salesman said he would call me so I could test drive a car similar to the spec I was interested in. Nothing!
The only helpful garage was the local Aston Martin dealership that had a Boxter in stock. The salesman was helpful, courteous and good as his word although the deal was not suitable.
Is this typical or have I been unlucky so far?To be honest if this customer service it puts you off buying the brand.

Seriously, take the car to one of the webuyyourcar type services and then go back to the dealer and haggle. The trade-in value you will get from a Porsche dealer will feel like a colonoscopy with a fire hose, and anything that results in them having to work for a living will result in then ignoring you and waiting for the next cash buyer.
Shop around at the buying services, they vary greatly, but at least you know what you're getting. Or take it direct to the local BMW dealer.
Many years ago my wife was buying a new Audi TT and agreed a trade-in on her Rav-4. At the last minute, with the car sat in the back of the dealer waiting to be prepped, they reneged on the deal and offered her nearly 2k less expecting us to swallow it. We got our deposit back and left, sold the car to a Toyota dealer and bought a TT from another Audi dealer. Appalling behaviour, but unfortunately quite common.

I traded in my BMW for a 911 at OPC Glasgow and that bit went very well (salesman was Craig Young) - good trade-in price and no problem with the deal. Wish I could say the same about my service experience with them! Edinburgh is also Sytner (as you're obviously aware) so, whilst I'm not surprised at the lack of response, you may get somewhere if you keep hassling them. In most cases the term 'car salesman' seems to be an oxymoron: Menzies BMW in Stirling has managed to lose my business on three separate occasions through complete indolence, including the time I walked into their showroom, pointed at the 330i Touring outside the window and said, "I'd like to buy that car, please - I have the cash". IME Porsche indies offer a more personal service. Worth finding a good one. Don't know of any in Scotland - sure there must be. There are some in North England such as Specialist Cars of Malton. My local indie will also search for your cherished car with absolutely no commitment. if you change your mind after they buy a car in they will just sell it as stock.
Thanks for the comments and advice although it's a depressing business attitude and I'm in danger of developing paranoia. I thought about contacting Porsche Uk for their comments on how business is transacted, or not, but there is no email address on the web.
Technomad, CY at Glasgow was my contact but after initial positive contact nothing further.
Interestingly, after raising the topic, got an email from the Edinburgh dealership saying they have been trying to contact me on my mobile without success. Strange since I gave my land line and don't give out the mobile number!
