I know someone with links to Recaro, so it may be possible to get you one from them direct rather than from across the pond.
cheersall
going to check out the Design 911 XL spyder seat at 370 squids I can have 2 for the price of one Recaro and stash , preserve the OEM seats.
Just need to confirm the seat width is same as Profi SPG at 16.9 call it 17inches. They look like a copy of the Recaro Seat.
If that doesnt work I,,l be contacting Slippy.
Cheers thanks for the offer and help
Do check with Gareth at GSM - he'll shoot you straight regarding UK stock availability, i was in market for these exact seats myself until recently...

It doesn't really matter where they're made Jim. As I understand it, you're a big lad, you need the strongest seat available in the event the worst should happen. I wrapped my Mk1 GT3 around a tree in Scotland a few years ago. It had the original bucket seats fitted, the sideways impact with the tree wrote the car off and snapped the tree off too. I wasn't harnessed in, so the impact of my ribcage on the seat boltsters broke two ribs. But the seat and it's mounting remained intact. by the way the tyres sound a good deal at 19.99 just put 2 toyos on my Griff cost me 216 fitted
Had I been in a lesser seat, I've no doubt the consequences would've been far, far worse.
I weigh 12-13 stone. My guess is you weigh slightly more .........? ? ?
In the event of a high G deacceleration, the one thing that will prevent serious injury is a high quality seat and mounting gear (and the mounting gear is just as, if not more important)
Which would you rather be sitting in, a cheap seat that looks good, whose side mount fixing bolts pass straight through the shell and whose surface area is increased by the use of some repair washers, or some properly designed steel inserts that are an integral part of the shell and thus spread the massive load you, your seat and it's fixings will be subjected to in a worst case scenario.
Rob Collard's BTCC crash last year. He walked away unhurt and the seat was completely intact, it was subsequently removed from the car, returned to cobra for inspection where it was found to be completely undamaged.

You're headed to CG with your car to make it handle properly shortly. The bill from Chris will be no less than £500 (and probably considerably more) yet you were considering fitting some cheap seat to "save a few bob", despite it being the one item that could save your life when you use the car in earnest once the suspension has been set up properly ............ ????
Edit to add, it seems you've seen the light
But my comments still stand to you and anyone considering fitting cheap seats into a performance car. Don't do it.Edited by Slippydiff on Monday 18th May 08:59

Cheers point taken in my original post said i was checking them out,the old maxim is your quite correct you get what you pay for so I,ve been in contact with USA and they are not allowed to export the Recaro seats they have 6 XL in stock they cater for the Bigga Driver. I,m 300lbs and just had my TVR seats mountings stiffened up so am aware of the issue regards the mounts.Thank for the post and your eperience i hope will be out there to other drivers whom may have gone down this route. I will be installing the correct mounts and brackets. Fortunately a fellow Porsche owner is willing to swop an xl for a normal size seat. I am most grateful for all the advise and fellowship shown to me since i started posting on the GT2 section
cheers beer on me when or if ever we meet up.

SPG XL seat is fantastic - very comfortable. Spent a long time in one and would recommend waiting for it!
ordered from USA should get in around 10days as having to ship internal in USA to a friend whom will then ship to medid you fit the seat in a 996 and did it interfere with the female seat belt anchor on the tunnel requiring this to be relocated

I had a pair fitted I'm something a tad different

Would not FIA approval on a seat give you some minimum standard of safety regardless of Country of Origin?
Correct but you have to ask the Taiwan seats were not FIA approved I also informed my insurance company I was changing the seat.
I get were your coming from people will have to wake up to the fact that Most reputable by name etc companies are manufacturing in China
I know quite a few bearing manufacturing companies are doing so
So still you must ask country of manufacture and then it's up to you.i
In my business for the same product Korean is preferred to Chinese manufacture.

Are you doing this to get round tax? Id like to buy a spoiler from getty design but begrudge paying all the tax importing it or doesnt it work from friend to friend?did you fit the seat in a 996 and did it interfere with the female seat belt anchor on the tunnel requiring this to be relocated

The supplier of the seat is contractually bound not to export so to get around this I had it shipped to a friend whom will export.
It's not a done deal that I can fit the seat and retain the seat belt female anchor at the tunnel side of the seat as the do seat is wider so hoping I can make a seat foundation with an offset to allow retaining the seat belt if not possible well will put the car back on the market when I feel the time Iis right.
