Full session track video from the Nurburg GP circuit. Filmed by my friend Udo in his 997.2GT3 with Gerd in his Silver 964RS up front and me in the middle. No excuses, I had a few moments; I was hoping, trying to tame the beast would be fairly easy with 325 rear section sticky rubber but I was proven wrong a couple of times (we can't all be Chris Harris). All in all a fantastic first real drive in my new car on a new circuit. Counting the days to the next session.

Agreed guys, bikes and cars= recipe for disaster. They try to mitigate this by setting the bikes off about 1/2 a lap before the cars. But as you can see in the video they are just obstacles in braking zones and bends. There were 2 bikes dropped/off in the gravel in this video alone. Also a factor in the spin I had at about 8:50min in the vid (due to being off-line and slow entry speed). Still a very safe circuit; nice and wide, loads of run-off... I would never take my RS on a TF day on the Nordschleife for instance, whereas the circuit TF sessions are very low risk in comparison.

Not a nice mix on track. Looked like you maybe jumped off the gas a bit much when you had lock on and it snapped back? Nice lines uptil then. The bikes must be bloody off putting in bends like that

Many thanks Jackwood smile
The drift was completely unintentional; practically every corner exit the tail was wagging like a goodun, just on this particular occasion she really wanted to strut her stuff. Just glad I managed to keep her on the black stuff wink

The way the engine revs may be partially down to the gearing revision that the car had. I posted up a little video earlier which probably highlights this a little more clearly (gearing seems very short to me):

Gerd's 964RS looked to have some serious grunt for a 964....how far behind was he at the end?

It's a lovely motor Gerd's car. Pretty stock from memory but it has Toyo R888 sticky rubber and he knows the track like the back of his hand. From memory he generally laps the circuit in 2:21mins

Gerd is a very good friend of mine, I have just popped round to see him and have a little look around his 964RS. Been in it many times before but never really looked at it in any detail. He said that stock they are 1220kg and his is 1150kg. His has 272BHP on a dyno so is in good health but is totally standard engine wise. He renovates classics for a living and the strange thing is, he specialises in English cars (also Porsches). Most often old Jaguars (120's, 140's, E-Types...)and but I have seen him working on all sorts of interesting things. I have just taken these pics to give you an idea of what he currently has in his workshops (one place is like an old barn about 100m from my house and the other is just outside his front door:

Today he was stripping down a 915 gearbox for a full renovation on a Turbo is he currently undertaking (you can also see the engine he has just finished a full rebuild on):

Said turbo on ramp (you can all see his green 911 and a Austin Healey tucked away in the corner)

All of this he does in a little garage just in front of his house (here is his house on the left with the green door:

The other side of this wall where my car is parked:

And here are the current contents of his barn just by my house (his 964RS is also tucked away in here):

Here are his two 911's together by his garage bow

The guy really is a top bloke and besides cars has the best wine collection I have end seen (I'll take a picture next time I'm in there).

Not too sure to be honest Chris. If I had been central on the track it would have been caught, but as I was over on the LH side, by the time I gathered it up, it was already in the grass so no chance from that point. Due to the bike I was off-line with slow entry speed but why the car stepped out quite like it did I'm not sure.

I was up there again today testing my new brakes on the 996 and again had to be very careful around the bikes, some of them just don't seem to value their own lives.

You can hear the revs flair then it spins. Lead foot IMO wink

It wouldn't be the first time foxsasha wink

Thing it through, throughout the session a dap of oppo was applied and she behaved. For instance towards the end of the first lap as I pass the 964RS you can she gets out of shape but it is gathered up no problems.
I have looked at the footage of the spin in slow-mo and there is quite a bit of opposite lock applied but the car didn't regain trajectory in the intended direction. Just surprised to be caught out in the manner I was as at almost every exit the tail was wagging without this result.

I watched your spin, basically you slowed down a lot more than before due to the bike being there, changed down to a lower gear and gave it the full beans, not backing off when it got to the point of no return,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, basically, to quote an old Rally term,,,,,,,,,,,,, you ran out of talent wink

Sounds lovely you car smile
