Yes I know they`re only meant for polishing and investing in, not driving but I`ve gotten mine dirty, very dirty. 2423 miles in 7 days, with an average of 25.6mpg and 54mph.
Scotland, Reims, Route Napoleon, Monte Carlo, Como, Stelvio, Andermatt, Black Forest, Scotland
Of course the overly long gearing meant it was useless on the Alpine passes, having to use 2nd on some of the tighter hairpins
The suspension and Buckets have left me needing several appointments with a chiropractor (Not !) and revving it through to the limiter in the hundreds of tunnels or while dispatching hire cars has made it unsaleable (thankfully 
) but the memories will live forever.
I genuinely can`t think of any other car I`d want to replace it with - I`ve learnt the clutch isn`t going to fail, despite how heavy it feels, the gearbox isn`t going to explode despite how noisy it gets (LWFW), it isn`t going to overheat despite sitting in huge traffic queues at 30C+, the full Cargraphic R system sounds incredible in tunnels and the harder I drive it, the more responsive it seems to get.
Feeling a tad guilty now about its lack of use over the past 2-3years.

But if further confirmation were needed, I'm not aware of you ever having questioned the value of your car, talked it's value up or talked about selling because you think you'll be respected more if you drive the latest, shiniest offering from Stuttgart.
If you be so kind as to post an in-car video of your exploits, the more skilled and knowledgeable of us can spend a further ten pages engaged in the petty assassination of your character whilst continuing to bicker like a bunch of spotty adolescents with f*ck all better to do. Of course, if you don't post a video, no one will believe you made it South of the Scottish border.
If on the other hand you do post a video but it doesn't contain Chris Harris esque doughnuts and every corner taken on the limit with either a dab of oppo (or better still a GoPro mounted on the steering rack showing the rack to be in the lockstops, we'll know your nothing but a limp wristed mincer who's never revved the Mezger above 2000rpm for fear it's big end bolts will fail, punch a hole through the crankcase which results in a spectacular conflagration.....
Publicising this "fantasy" of yours on a public forum is all well and good, just be aware you're utterly deluded if you think for one moment that tactility, engagement and fun at sane speeds is any substitute for a sub 7 minute 'Ring time, or the ability to out corner an F3 car, rest assured it doesn't, and anyone who tries to convince you otherwise, is poor.

Nice to see a car being used, by the current owner and not worrying what the next one will think, and a great trip. Jealous as we don't have one planned this year.
Oh Christ , now you've done it, this kind of road trip posted on a public forum could cause the prices of GT3's to plummet into free fall to the point where GT4RS and thirty something get on with it and buy one, heck they might even do a similar trip with the free time they have spare from not posting about prices crashing.

Beautiful car OP and some stunning scenery. I did a similar trip 2 years ago and your thread has brought back great memories. You mention a LWFW; is this standard for your car or a different one you have fitted. Reason is, I have just bought one but didn't look into noise/vibration issues before purchase. If this is a non-standard FW you have fitted, could you please let me know if there was a marked difference between it and the stock item. Sorry for the slight thread Hi-jack.

Some awesome memories though with great friends, trip made a refreshing change to the usual Ring or Spa trip, so much more to see in the World, going to head to Pyrenees or further East next year I think.

An M3 lost its starter motor and an E60 M5 lost its power steering pump but both managed to stay the distance (steering in the M5 is comically heavy, seriously if anyone has one, try turning the wheel with engine off !!!!)

Richie, it's just the standard Club sport (964 RS I believe) flywheel with Cup diff plates. Already fitted when I bought, so can't give a comparison to standard comfort flywheel.
In fairness though my refresh fund is going to have to stretch another £50 for a splitter !

wish I had a photo of us stepping out of the hotel lift onto a freshly cleaned marble floor (crutch rubbers really don't like slippy surfaces ) but that would probably be a bit sadistic.
I'm sure you'll love the flywheel once you've adjusted yourself to it, I stalled it constantly at first but rarely do now - once you know where the biting point is don't touch the throttle if pulling away slowly, let the car do its thing otherwise you'll lift as the revs soar and it'll drop too low too quickly. Quicker set offs aren't a problem.

Am totally with you on this. So regret telling the finance company I would only put 6000 miles a year on my targa. Now I find myself counting the miles or counting the pennies to pay the balloon at the end. If you're a first time Porsche buyer, think of an annual mileage number and double it. It's automotive crack cocaine. Put 600 miles on mine this weekend. Top down, mostly motorways and 33 mpg average, and that included constant throttle lift out to enjoy the crackle on the over run. Only regret is that I didn't buy my first 911 ten years ago.
Just bought my first 911 (a 996tt) with just over 60k miles on the clock and was pondering only last night about how I can find enough time to put a decent annual mileage onto it, because it really needs to be at 70k within two years time - they want and deserve to be used IMHO. (FWIW, I love the 996 interior; functional and sufficiently dated now to have a bit of a retro feel to it.)
