Factory collection: how much notice do they give you?

We're hopefully doing factory collection for our Boxster GTS sometime in July, but we still don't have a confirmed build/collection date from Porsche Guildford (or anyone). Best we have is that we're going to be Guildford's first BGTS build in Q3, but with the caveat that the car might not be ready until August in which case factory collection is then not possible

For those who have done factory collection before, how much notice do you typically get? It's starting to get problematic for us as we have to arrange time away from work, hotels etc as we're planning a trip afterwards in it for our summer holiday.

TBH, it's all starting to seem a bit amateur given the amounts of money involved (you should have seen the paper work for the travel agent we had to fill in to request factory collection, looked like my 10 year old niece knocked it up on word). Potentially 22 days before our car might start being built, there's been no communication as to even which 4 week period it's going to be ready.

I found the same in November 2007 collecting mine, and it was made even harder for me by having to arrange and book at my expense connecting flights from Ireland. It seems it's tied in with Porsche's inability to give a firm build date at any stage. I can see how this happens, we were on a factory tour to Leipzig last year when the production line just shut down for 17 mins due to a fault. The guy showing us around remarked that " there goes someones delivery, these cars will not be delivered as planned ".

I get that unplanned stoppages can happen, I just would have though that if you were doing factory collection, they'd add say a 10 day buffer to when you car should have been completed e.g. build scheduled to complete on the 10th, do not allow collection before 20th.

Btw, did they say how long it takes to build a car?
