Diary of a new Cayman R owner

Just driven for the first time a Cayman R. Missed my 996 GT3 and the opportunity came along to pick up this beauty of a car and I had to have it. Never thought I would like white but it is just drop gorgeous. The old shape of the Cayman has really grown on me. The curve of the roof at the back to me is the classic Porsche curve. Inside it just encases you and feels so right. Just amazing to get back in. Gave me that same smile I had in the 996 GT3.
Only driven it once around our beautiful coast but so glad to be back in again. Looking forward to getting it home. A very happy and lucky man. A few pics taken this evening.

The R is going to stay at home. I reckon Highland trip might be good fun for it. The pictures from this years trip look amazing.

Highland was superb but lots of gravelly roads leading to many folks (including my CLS) needing new windscreens and front end resprays!
A wonderful drive this evening and I can safely say I am very happy - the car has everything the GT3 had but without the drawbacks. The car is just amazing. It is civilised unlike the GT3 that poked you in the back and urged to keep pushing, which was fun but a little like an over eager child, it wears you a little on the road. The CR is so smoother no issues at low speed in traffic an absolute pleasure. Oh yeah speed humps no problem 
The ride is firm and stiff but the riding environment is just so much more civilised. It's modern the GT3 had bundle of character but it did not have to like you you had to like it. The CR is just such a nice place to be. The delivery of power is much smoother and constant as well. The GT3 jumped into life and felt that it sped off like a scalded cat. The CR just picks itself up and jumps forward much better delivery. The engine does not have the same noise energy that the GT3 had, but that has its advantages. The GT3 was an occasion to start and hear that engine noise...yeah I will miss that. The CR is just a pleasure to drive. If you want to step on it's there but does not need to shout about it. At 20 mph I have been in louder electric cars. It is just a pleasure.
One thing I can't fathom is the sports exhaust - can't see the point it just makes a louder farty noise. You are connected enough to the engine and the car that as it picks up it's skirt you feel it it speaks to you no need to fiddle about with the exhaust. But that is just my opinion.
The driving position is just perfect you sit down low so the road opens up ahead of you and you feel part of the machine around you. The buckets are comfortable but no as much of an occasion as the GT3 buckets. The wings and high back on the GT3 buckets was just brilliant. They hold you well and are functional but GT3 buckets I preferred.
I am taken and so glad I got it. It just makes sense. Going from a GT3 to the CR does in no way feel a step backward. It is truly a brilliant car.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. There is a very sad space in my garage for a while.
I am considering going down the paint to sample route - Lady Penelope's Rolls - just to keep the pressure off me selling it too quickly (my half, that is)
