Anyway I am getting over it.

Thankfully the damage caused to the paintwork is very minor and will be covered by a replacement.

Best source for a reasonably priced replacement? I imagined having to pay around £25 for a new one but that is fantasy, it would appear.

996, so would need to be of that period.

Thanks, but that's for an early 911.

I'm being asked 120 euro for a new one. Ouch, it's just a bleddy badge, this is what gets to me more than the price per se.
