Channel tunnel to Calais ( hopefully no issues at the time) have an overnight stay at Reims then next day get to Stuttgart in 4hrs.
Oh Calais to Reims is 3.5hrs

We did Hull Ferry to Rotterdam, has the advantage of not having to drive to the far end of the country to get on the continent, and you get home relaxed.

We came back from Stuttgart leaving around 9.30 and arriving back in Rotterdam around 5.00, I think, with stops about every two hours, and at least an hour for lunch. Was a good fun blast back.

I'd take the hull/harwich ferry to holland overnight - bimble through Holland at a sedate 130kmh and then floor it to the 'ring for a few cheeky laps. Then haul ass on the 'bahn to Stuttgart in a few hours. Make sure you don't arrive on a Monday - it's closed.

I'm actually doing this same trip in a couple of weeks...

Thanks for the replies, the German route sounds good, but so does swinging past Reims. Maybe in one way and back out the other....I will check the ferry in to Holland also.....

I'd take a route that involves as short a time as possible in France- the French motorways are no fun.
Last time I got home via France weeks later I got a 90Euro fine in the post for doing about 50mph in a 40 zone near Reims......best stick to countries that are more relaxed.

Recently I went to Germany via the ferry to Dunkirk, overnight in Bruges which was very nice,then across via Luxembourg into Germany.If you have time it's always worth doing a run on route 500 south from Baden Baden.......you could then loop back up to Stuttgart on autobahn 81 which is great for going flat out-(numerous sections derestricted)

It's cheap and has a large secure underground carpark- there were numerous nice 911's parked up with foreign plates.....the Maybachstrasse train station is 1 min away- from there the Porsche museum takes about 15mins (you have to change train once)

Hull Rotterdam is nice - did the overnight years ago en route to Italy in a TVR. Of course, it can get a little rough out in the North Sea, so it depends whether you and your navigator find that amusing or nauseating.

Yes- I had UK plates- about six weeks after I got home a letter arrived in the post from France saying which camera I'd been caught on near Reims- I couldn't believe it. I had to go online and pay the fine-if you don't pay within a certain time it goes from 90 euro up to 200 odd or something. I'm sure if you ignore the letter it's fine-until maybe you return to France - not worth the hassle or risk for 90euro.

We recently did a EU trip that included a stop at the Museum and a factory Tour. We travelled from Poole to Calais via Eurotunnel and decided to make the trip a leisure one and stopped in NAMUrR in Belgium then on to Stuttgart where we stopped for a night in a themed room in the V8 hotel which is a great place to stay and look at the cars a Petrol Heads Nirvana and they have their own brewery 👍. Then on to Porsche Platz. For the Factory and Museum. If you go to the museum also book in for the factory tour and see the 911 & Boxster production line it's well worth the €5 charge and IMHO it's better than the museum. Eating at Porsche is difficult if you've not pre booked we went to a great little cafe about 200m from the Museum building. Just to repeat if your in Stuttgart for the museum book in for the factory don't miss it watching the cars being built is fantastic my non-petrolhead wife thoroughly enjoyed the tour and keeps talking about it now we are back.

Forget to say don't forget you Emiasions Sticker cost €6 buy it from the Berlin web page you can order and pay on line and they posted it and we got it delivered in under a week. I think it's a €200 fine for not having it

Interesting, was this a couple of years ago? Currently speeding fines incurred from a camera in one EU state are unenforceable if the alleged offender lives in and car is registered in another EU state (this might change in the near future).

However, I did hear a story from a police officer friend that the French did enlist the help of a debt collection agency to try and recoup fines incurred by Brits in France a couple of years ago but it all fell apart when one of the alleged offenders went to court and challenged it. Turns out that as the alleged debt was incurred in France the UK courts had no jurisdiction and it was thrown out. The story is different if you have a locally rented hire car however as they chase the rental company and they can charge it to the card you used as security (read the small print).

Fine was about €32 for each day caught in a zone. We never bothered, mainly as my 911 is too old and can't get one. If I was just going to the museum/factory I wouldn't bother. Many local cars didn't have them.

I go there about twice a year and haven't bought the emissions sticker.

I generally do tunnel, Belgium, 'Ring then Stuttgart.

The sticker is only required in some towns/cities, but as said it can be ordered online arrives in a couple of days and was 15euros, so no real reason not to just buy and forget!

I've never bothered with an emmissions sticker either...

It's pretty easy process on web and they tell you which sticker you need. Try for a night at the V8 and pre book factory tour before you travel
