What do you think to this 911 X50?

I have a bit of spare cash and I want to dip into the Porsche experience. I don't like losing money on cars after I bought a new specced out BMW535d sport back in the day. The depreciation wrecked the relationship somewhat.

So I'm looking for a Porsche that will either not drop in value or even mildly appreciate. On my list is either a 996 C4S around 2003 with under 60,000 miles and FSH or a 996 Turbo. I would prefer the turbo due to the different engine and it looks stunning. However since I started looking prices seem to have gone bonkers. Dealers seems to be cashing in on people like me with £8-10K premiums on some cars. Which is nuts.

Anyway I have just spotted this one:

Anyone able to give me some helpful advice? Feel totally out my depth and don't want to end up paying too much (always subjective) or getting a wrong'un.

Looks reasonable value if it checks out OK and you like the Aero kit.

Looks very good and good value. Get it properly inspected and check for over revs, other than that a major service isn't much over £650 ish at an indy so don't let that put you off.

This is going to sound silly, but that service history is just too perfect. Every year within a month?

I would be checking that very carefully. Mind you, I am a suspicious fellow.

The 7 owners and being serviced at OPC (Colchester, Newcastle, Bolton, Solihull) certainly needs verifying, surprised it hasn't seen any Indies.

Looks good, make sure it's a real X50, try to get it inspected and assessed for how much money is going to need spending for the major service that's due. Good value if it checks out.

I looked at this car last week (I think I was the first person to view it)

On the face of it it does seem a good deal as an X50 with full OPC history. However, the car has no paperwork with it and the X50 option code is not in the service book.

If I was going to buy I would confirm all services via Porsche GB and also the X50 option code (I understand some cars left the factory with some option codes not listed).

The car has recent brake discs/ tyres and refurbed alloys. The bodywork/ interior is pretty good (usual stone chips and carbon trim across the windscreen is missing but nothing untoward). The headlights are indeed yellowing but they said they can make them a lot better with a special "sanding" pad. THe brake calipers need repainting as the lacquer has come off. It didn't look that great underneath but I haven't seen a similar mileage car as a reference so maybe its OK.

The car drove fine but apparently needs a new clutch actuator. I think they would be happy to put it into an OPC for a major service although if anything is picked up they may choose to do it themselves.

I put into a call to Porsche Bolton as they did 7 services up until 2013 and they confirmed the car was known to them and was well looked after. They also confirmed they did a clutch change in 2009 at c.45,000 miles and that it was indeed an X50 car. I think they could also send copy invoices to the new onwner providing they blank out the owners details and see the V5.

I didn't do a deal on it as they were going to get back to me with the X50 confirmation from Porsche but I didn't hear anything before the weekend and ended up buying another car

Hi, just to let you know I have looked at this car and checked all the service history and it all ties up, I checked with all the opc involved, I must say some of us do have our cars serviced on the dot, my tvr has been serviced from new by me in the same week same month,,every year, 10 years, 10 services all by same technician at the same dealer.

Appreciate the responses. It sounds as though it may need some work to bring it up to standard. Tempted but don't have the time currently to sort it out.

My search continues I guess. If anyone thinks they have spotted a corker please let me know !
