944S2 cabrio wipers

Just back from a fortnight in France in the 944. Brilliant as usual. cruising at the legal max...still comfortable after 26 years & 92k miles. only problem is getting in & out seems to be more difficult as the years go by! On the way back it lashed it down with rain & the wipers began to make a rather "graunchy" noise. Not the blades, but the motor/mechanism. It did this a few years ago, but working on the principle of it will either get better or get worse, amazingly it got better!
I may not be so lucky this time. Any one know how easy to get at the motor or linkage? As this is usually something fitted early in the build process I doubt it will be straightforward! I don't fancy even my local independent's charges to investigate...
Any advice?
