So many 911 these days are in silver, or dark blue.

Personally, I miss the way that Porsche was much braver with colour choices only a few years ago.

So why are'nt people buying more colourful new Porsches anymore? Granted, speed yellow is still around, but has anyone seen a Maritime blue 997?

I think its a shame.

Some of these colours need some getting used to , but I like them !

What does the PH collective make of the more colourful Porsche, and do any of you happen to own one ! Lets see some pictures.

Here's one of Henry's current offerings:

I favour 'Monkeybum Red' myself......

It's this country -look at the average car park in France or Germany and you will see a brighter selection of colours.

Agreed. Too much obsession with "safe" choice with an eye on resale.

Bright cars just don't look good under British skies.

In bright sunny climes, even red exec saloons look great. Had a bright red M5 pass me, today. Lovely.

Still think that certain cars suit certain colours. I had a 3.2 Carrera...looked good in black, as do any of the turbos, gives 'em a mean look. My 993 C2 looks good in Polar Silver cause it's small without a big spoiler. Not sure about 'Henry's latest tho'.

I love the darker colours, but also like something unusual.
My 996 is Metallic Viola Purple (Pic on my profile) which is a rare special order colour and the nice thing about it is that the car looks different colours in different light.

I like it anyway

Zanzibar GT3 is absolutely gorgeous !

As explained in the original post, I don't understand why there is such a conservative mood among new 911 buyers these days.

Speed yellow or guards red is as daring as people get these days. When you look at the history of 911's, with Rubystone, Amethyst, Maritime and others, the colour palette these days seem so , well, dull....

Zanzibar looks realy really nice there, and it suits the car.

Unusual colours are great to look at but it's a bit
different when you have to buy it, live with it, and possibly sell it. When a colour suits the car, then it looks great, but the same colour on a different car it might just look awful.

For me anyway, white and G. red, and most solids look not so good on 993, silvers and met blue/red are great. Silvers look less than perfect for 3.2 and earlier 911 but solid darks look good. Brown never suits any car, cream and white are good for 356s. Red looks good on Ferrari but not much else. etc etc all personal choices but then some colours are more popular for a reason.

I like to think Cobalt Blue strikes the right balance between conservative understatement and the requirment to wear shades to avoid feelings of nausea when viewing the car

Don't think they are the same. When I went to my local OPC and checked the colour out (My reg doc says "Multicoloured" ) It said Viola Metallic. By the look of your car picture Vesuvius looks to be a little lighter, but it's difficult to tell.

Looks good though

Sorry for the thread hijack but was that Rubystone 911 the one following a 360 down the A64 towards Scarborough from York on Saturday afternoon?

If so well done, that mini convoy looked

I agree. Personally I'm a bit of a fan of the polychromatic paintjob.

Worst colour for me must be white, especially if it has badly positioned stickers, such as those from Shell or Bosch.

Could that be anything to do with Melv then?

Got a lovely 996 tiptronic for sale in Chamaeleon red to blue if anyone out there is feeling brave. Actual colour is more like orange to purple, but I'm sure you get the idea.

Colin- is that the 996 with the Gt3 kit on & GT2 suspension that was at Oulton pk last yr?

Indeed a truely stunning colour car in the flesh if it is.

Positioning those stickers took hours of preparation and careful thought and consultation with reference sources.....
