PPIs at an respected independent?

If you were planning on purchasing from a very well respected Indy, would you say it's still worth spending the money on a PPI, or would you take them at their word as to the quality of the car and their in house warranty?

You ought to be wasting your money if they are that good. That said, some people have ideas of a well respected dealer that might not align with my view.

only ppi worth having on cars sub 8 years is an OPC 111 check, yes it does not check much, but you can then put a warranty on the car if you so wish, or you will know the reason why a warranty will not go on it.

hence many many cars at indy's are SOR to keep Porsche warranty.

over 8 years old always get a 3rd party inspection done.

I'm talking about the likes of eporsch, Northway etc. Seem to be very well respected not only on here but in general as well.

I don't agree with spending EXTRA money on having a PPI on a Porsche if it's being sold by a Porsche specialist. However unless it's being sold by the likes of Northway, PCT, Jaz, Hartech. 911V or Adrian Crawford but if it's London based ie north of the river and older, I'd PPi.

Funny this should come up, I'm in the process of buying a 996 C4S from 911 Virgin and did consider getting a PPI done by an independent assessor prior to collection. But the quality of service and feedback I've had thus far from Tom has really been second to none and with the years warranty that i have opted for i really don't see the need.

I've not even seen a picture of the car yet, but i feel completely at ease with the whole process so far and I can't wait to collect it.

I wouldnt buy a daily stter unseen. Its just not how I work.

The deal is that if on arrival to collect the car it is not what it has been described as, or in the condition described or i think it's a stter then it is deposit refunded and dropped back to the station to go home.

Never done this before but , do you know what, i feel really comfortable with dealings thus far, they have been excellent so far and i don't expect that to change.

Lol - You make it sound like you are buying an unknown car from some dodgy mob that no ones heard of. Everyone knows 911V has a great rep and the chances it's not as described are pretty low / non existent.

You know, I get the logic, but this is an emotional purchase, its not a Kia Sorrento.

I have to see it, feel it, want it etc etc.

I bought my 993 from a very respected indy whom I know well. I gave them a complete headache. They ended up doing a lot of extra work on the car, as opposed to a discount.

And these are guys I trust. As much as I can.

They do indeed have an excellent reputation, and for good reason going on my experiance so far.

I've also had a car from JZM in the past and they were also excellent to deal with and exceeded expectations.

I'd always say that, unless you are 100% sure of the dealer and the car, and your own ability to asses both, then get a PPI.

Also worth mentioning that, even with a good car, dealer and a PPI, the unexpected can still occur. Not likely, but possible.

Ok thanks for your advice chaps. I do usually have a feel for whether a cars good or bad and am fairly clued up but it will be a major purchase so I want it to be right but just don't want to waste money if it's not really worth it. Oh and if anything does go wrong I'm a grown man so won't be coming on here bleating about it.

Not really. There are things that just go wrong - one day they are simply not apparent, but the next, or the day after next etc. etc. they crop up.

As a qualified mechanical engineer, I can vouch for it being my experience that this is the vexatious nature of any mechanical beast.

I bought my GTS from an indie and they paid for the car to go in for a 111 point OPC check pre-purchase.

The OPC called me directly and talked through the results, very reassuring.
