996 with airbag light, anyone selling their old Durametric?
Discussion
Hello Guys,
My 996 C2 has the airbag light on after going over a bump. Frustratingly, my iCarsoft i960 scanner will not access the airbag module (despite the marketing information saying it will).
Has anyone got Durametric with a slot left they want to sell me? I don't feel like I will get the value out of buying a new copy given that I am not looking to do any coding or do anything fancy, and I have the iCarsoft for any DME faults if they occur.
I know that there are knock-offs and Chinese copies galore that don't work for this software, so I want to avoid that and see if anyone has the genuine Durametric that they aren't using anymore and wish to sell.
Thanks,
Chris

Both the OPC and Indy wanted more (inc likely parts) than would basically buy Durametric once VAT is thrown in.
My experience with other marques is once you are chasing down airbag faults on 13 yr old cars you want the reset software yourself, before you start living at the dealers.
Does anyone have an unwanted one to sell?

Got to love the two kinds of PH-er!
Voicey - thank you for your very kind offer, that is Greenwich way?
996TT02 - OPC wants min 1hr half labour, and I still won't have the means to reset it in the future, only to go back and buy another hrs labour. Tell me, are you always so self important when people don't listen to your "say something obvious" advice? My old copy Durametric will not connect beyond DME to any model choice.

I don't know anything about your "old copy Durametric". You are only mentioning it now, despite describing in detail your other software and what it can and can't do.Voicey - thank you for your very kind offer, that is Greenwich way?

I simply said that my ebay copy works and I see no reason why it won't work on yours, but you are still looking for a solution despite being given it. I reset my airbag light perfectly satisfactorily. Perhaps it's because I took the advice someone else gave to me on an internet forum, which was, "select 993 as model".
I could also tell you that you will be advised that you need XP to run it, however you can certainly run it on a Win8 laptop if you use the appropriate drivers for a later version of Durametric that works with Win8.
Feel free to ignore all the above.
You're one of those, aren't you. "I simply said..."
No. You were simply rude.
"Go to the OPC". Cheers. Stellar advice.
"Hello OPC, can you please read my airbag light fault code, order and then fit the replacement for the part that has failed and triggered it,and then turn of the light, all for the cost of second hand Durametric software, whilst not also telling me my car is 14 yes old with 100k miles and needs everything replacing".
"Yes sir, we at OPC will do that for £19.95 and a free cup of coffee".

I bought a 993 2 years ago with the airbag light on. Part of the deal was that the light would be sorted. I had to travel 75miles to go to various back street garages who had an old bosch hammer(didn't work) durametric(didn't work) and eventually we had to go to the OPC.They had to send there software away to Germany to be updated so it would work with my car. Car got a new contact spring and airbag module and then eventually the light went out. Depending what is causing your problem you could quite easily end up at on OPC.

You're good, you are. At reading only what suits you. Or maybe comprehension was far from your forte. Ho ho ho for your post, such an amusing read, maybe your talents lie in entertainment. Good job you've got the flashing lights sorted out already.No. You were simply rude.

I went to see Voicey this morning, and he very kindly took a look. The airbag light could be turned off, but would then come straight back showing that something had indeed gone bad. The error code "Driver airbag firing circuit 21 Signal too high" was stored on the ECU.
I believe that error code 21 means that the clockspring/squib in the steering wheel needs replacing, so no real dramas (I changed one on my 330i some years back when the steering wheel buttons stopped working).
A very big thanks to Voicey who is a real gent and proper Pistonhead, who also kindly gave his time to show me his rather gorgeous Ferrari.

The dealer I bought the car off said 'It's always the clock spring that causes the light to come on,bad connections usually'. So he sent me a new clock spring and I fitted it and took the car back to his mate with a durametric and the light kept coming back hence they started arguing that one had told the other that it was the clock spring. As I said before it was quite involved even at the OPC to get it sorted out.
