Temperature indicator Failure

Bought a 2008 cabriolet 997 Gen 1 3.8 4s around three months ago absolute minter every thing on this car is A1 but just started getting a red flashing light top right hand corner of the rev counter and a message saying failure indicator with the temperature sign and the temperature gauge drops to zero
It's not leaking water or or even getting hot and the antifreeze is up to the line
unfortunately it's intermittent as soon as the car gets to working temp it all goes back to normal
I have had the temperature sensor done and had it checked out but what ever is causing it is not showing up on the Porsche Diagnostics
Just wondering is anyone on here has had the same problem and found out what's causing it.

Hi the temp sensor circuit goes through the DME control unit, and the ecu has a temp map, and if for any reason the coolant temp goes outside of its normal warm up map, it turns gauge of as a warning.

I had one a few months ago and there was a piece of debris stuck in thermostat, never found where it came from, replace the stat with ltt and all ok so far.

I had exactly this on a 2011 997RS and it was a transmission cooling system valve, whatever that is. It was replaced and the problem went away. It did actually show up on the diagnostics though.

Quite convenient this has come up....am having the exact same issue with almost the same car off and on and had forgotten about it....as it turns out the car is with Reading so i had best get that valve changed..

Was it expensive to have this valve changed
