Hi,

I have a 987 Cayman S and the gear change doesn't feel all that great. I'd like to upgrade the shifter to something a little better.

I've seen there are the following options (amongst others)

Designtek
B&M
Numeric
Porsche 997 quickshift kit: 997 424 983 00
Porsche GT3 shifter: 997 424 010 91

I'm tempted by the 997 quickshift kit and the GT3 shifter. As I understand it, the 997 quickshift kit is a reduced throw version of the standard 997 shifter and has plastic bushes. The GT3 shifter is upgraded as it has metal bushes and a more precise feel. My question is, is the GT3 shifter also a shorter throw? Is it shorter than the standard 997 or 987 shifter?

Finally, what shifter is standard in the 987 Cayman? Is it the same as a standard 997?

I've been quoted around £250 for the Porsche shifters, but I'm not sure which one to go for. Any help or advice?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Dan

I have the SSK in my 997. IMHO the GT3 shifter felt more direct when I tried one, however it is actually a slightly longer throw than the SSK.

Both are an improvement on stock for feel, also they're both resultantly grumpy when cold.
If I was to change I'd get the GT3 one.

That's great, thanks. I find my current shifter difficult when cold too.

Ooh, that looks nice. Cheaper than the GT3 kit too (although probably not with postage on top). Currently out of stock though.

Ok so until recently I ran a 987 gen1 Cayman against a 997.2 GT3 (now have a 991 GT3 and the Cayman).
The Cayman has cup car cables that made a big difference (needs careful set up) as well as std Porsce quick shift conversion.
I have to say I preferred the shift in the GT3 but the Midified Cayman is far quicker to change.

Do bear in mind the amount of effort to take out seats, centre consult and carpets, quite a bit of work to get carpets out. My Cayman was already fully stripped so not an issue for me
