insurance post 2 - results of a ring around
Discussion
well, its been a fascinating afternoon on the phone renewing my insurance. 94L 968cab, 5+ NCB, protected. 2 flies in the ointment; i need class 1 (business) use, and the wife, a named driver, made a claim on her policy last year. so the results, in no particular order (using Porsche Post as a source of friendly companies)
Carole Nash £1100 (wouldnt do classic insurance w business use)
Nowell & Richards £684 - new policy, my current policy with Groupama through them refused to renew cos of wifes claim (see separate post/whinge)
PerformanceMarque £804 (policy with Norwich Union)
Heritage £900
Liverpool&Victoria £820
A.Manning £640 (£508 if i ditch the spouse!)
PerformanceInsurance £950 - PorschePost advert says "guaranteed to beat your existing quote" - err..no you didnt
Churchill (online) £600
Morethan - refused to recognise any car called porsche and closed down its quote po-up every time I entered make of car
Norwich Union Direct (telephone, not online) £517
And Liz, the lovely lady from Norwich Union, even apologised ("oh gosh, youre in group 20, I am sorry"). (Their online quote was even cheaper but excluded those who want business use.)
So in an afternoons ring around a variation in quotes of over 100%
and the two best quotes came not from specialist brokers but huge mainline corporates

my stepfather used to get his 944 insured through Saga. I am still over a decade too young to access there services, which I suppose is a good thing?
I will try the caravan club once Ive finished snickering.
AON took my number (twice) and never called back. maybe worthwhile persevering. But it seems clear that norwich union are doing a big push at the moment (a la L&V last year) so I think they will be hard to beat

When I first got my 968 I found Direct Line / Privilege etc much cheaper than the specialists who advertise in Porsche Post.
I've since switched to First Alternative, paying just over £500
(age 30, clean licence, kept on street in medium-risk part of Bristol).
Don't know what they're like for business use though.

i must be doing something wrong. ok Ive got business use and ok my wife had a crunch last year, but we live in a rural village on the outskirts of Taunton and the car is garaged. yet my quote tonight with first alternative was £711 and removing the wife dropped it to £708!! maybe the eye in the sky has been watching my driving.
nice car by the way alex. didi it come with those clear indicator lenses or did you fit them, and if so, where d'you get them?

I got the lenses from Type 911 ( www.type-911.co.uk ).
I just checked the site and it seems the price has gone up massively since I bought mine 2 years ago, may be worth checking elsewhere before buying!
Going further o/t , do you use the 968uk forum? Worth a visit ( www.porsche968uk.co.uk/phpbb/index.php )
