has anyone fitted a hotwire airflow meter and ecu conversion to a 964, if so was it worth the extra expense over the flap type airflow meter?
is the performance increase worth the dosh?
thanks in advance

This 'can' be a very effective mod, but it doent work on all cars & correct set up is absolutely crucial.

My 964RS has had that kit fitted - presumably it started out at 260BHP and it now has a measured (2 years ago) 289BHP. I think the changes actually done were: air-mass kit, new chip, cat's changed (both removed, race cat fitted). It was done in 1997 by RSR and the kit came from Steve Holgate.

It revs even more freely than a standard RS and has proven reliable for 7 years. Red line is about 7,400.

I'd thoroughly recommend it - but I don't know whether everyone actually uses precisely the same system or whether people that do it have their only variations.

AmD did my 964 C4 (In the Geoff Everett days). Cost about £1500 incl new chip some five-six years ago.

Went from 258bhp to 292 at the flywheel......my initial comment to Geoff was, 'Help, I need new brakes' -the corners came up a lot quicker!!

Made my day when Nick Faure came up to me at Goodwood and confessed he had trouble catching me up -he was in a 993RS......

My 964RS makes around 287hp (flywheel estimate) with only a custom map & with the standard air flow 'flap'. AmD rollers.

PS standard throttle body, K&N filter, cat bypass & cup pipe.

PPS was speaking to Colin (9M) the other day and he suggested that the standard rods in the RS engine aren't too clever above about 7100/7200. Take it easy with your top end shenanigins out there kids. Don't want to poke a hole in the side of your crankcases...

Steve Holgate did this mod to my 964 C2 back in about 1995 - fantastic upgrade. Anyone know what Steve's up to these days...?

I have had this done to my 964RS. The main difference, beside torque and power, is the throttle response, which is more sensitive, particularly so at lowish RPMs. I would never consider going back to the older valve system.

Whilst my car would appear to rev upto 7200, I usually change up 6500-6800, the extra four hundred revs doesn't appear to make much diference, but thanks for the tip!! Can't take another rebuild......

You want some carillo rods with ARP rod bolts and some nice short skirted pistons!

Did the cup car have the standard RS engine, but with diff ECU, or is it strengthened internally with Porsche motorsport parts?

After his extended holiday in Strangeways, got divorced, sold Exclusively 9 to Christopher Neil TVR, left them to flounder and set up 47 Road and Track, which went into receivership owing a lot of people a lot of money.

Not heard from him since (maybe that's because he owed me a lot of money ) but I believe that he is in the Midlands somewhere dabbling with the odd car project.

As for 964RS:
1. do not rev engine past 7000 on standard rods as it will damage the pistons
2. live remap of standard ecu on standard throttle body makes as much power & torque as a mass flow conversion for half the price.

My 964RS has a hot film conversion & chip. This was done in Germany in 1995. Since then it's had a Cup Pipe, De-Cat and 102mm tail pipe.
Ran 304 BHP on Amd rollers in July time, revs really free in all the gears, seen c160 ish b4 running out of road, so all seems well

Blimey not suprised the motor trade has a bad reputation!
