Chris Harris on Cars - LaFerrari v Porsche 918 v McLaren P1

The LaFerrari looks a handful, the McLaren quite indomitable with its race mode and Trofeos, and the 4wd Porsche just eeks out those tenths out of the turns and you suspect would lap all day.
Highlight for me wasn't the laps actually but the larking about that starts from min 31:00. Big grins all round.
Nice one Chris :-)

That must have been the best day ever! Imagine it, 3 of the fastest, most capable production cars in existence, 2 mates, sunshine and a race track.
They are so close in performance it's amazing, as usual, the Porsche has less ponies yet can still hang with the big dogs. That for me is seriously impressive and to be faster than the fezza over a lap is astonishing. The Ferrari is very dramatic and well...Ferrari and the macca is just a pure masterpiece of engineering. The sheer speed of the Maclaren is something else! How can 2(very large) tyres cope with that amount of horsepower!?
There is nothing I wouldn't do for one day hooning around a track with those cars. The worst thing for me is I will never even sit in any of those cars.
Cracking video.

Good video but not a great result for the 918. Admired but not loved or lusted after like the other two.
I've not seen the video yet, but would say that the 918's forte is not solely on a race track. It's too heavy for that, but so are they all. The 918 just keeps growing on you the more you use it, as it does everything so well, and the tech is incredible, and incredibly well put together. I 'lusted' after it a lot more after some epic road trips than I did after some laps on track. Have done almost 4500 miles in it now, in 5 months.

Why? Are you serving a life sentence or something? You never know your luck.
, you never know your luck
My little lad Sammy in my friends 918
And then in his LaFerrari
Personally it's the LaFerrari for me

been done before these 3 a week a go, so a bit late to the party is chris (but what a mega review and film) and if you want the 918 to win it does in the lap times and 1/4 mile ;-)

I'll take the Ferrari though thanks.

then he should have been 1st to put the 3 on track and get the vid out , but a lass he was beaten too it.
possibly a bit of red tape in making of that vidAlso in the Chris Harris test the manufacturers were involved BIG BIG difference and what Top Gear was trying to do. Although didn't see Porsche mechanics in the video.
In terms of entertainment, fun, quality of driving, thrashing the car (yes they were burning loads of rubber) CH's video way above the other ones.
CH always makes quality videos.
The issue with the 918 is that it's just boring.
Compared to the P1 with it's wings and race mode and the LaFerrari with it's looks and noise the 918 is, basically, a hybrid 911 with the engine moved forward a bit.
The 4wd helps no ends and no doubt it's a quick car but it's just boring.
I suspect tracks will matter as well.
I saw another video around silverstone and the 918 was slower than the Ferrari and the Maccer.
Me, I'd go for a P1. I expect a hyper-race car to be just that and the P1 is wonderful. Saw 3 of them in procession on the A34 last weekend and a bit of wee came out
Ferrari is great but IMO going to be bought by rich footballers.
The p1 is the best drivers car
Maybe the 918 would be the car you'd want to live with every day?

Have you driven a 918?? I find it impossible for anybody to say that it's a boring car. Yes it is easier to live with than the other two, but it will bite a less skilful driver due to it's ferocious grunt. What actually makes it so impressive is the fact it is as quick as the others but a much more finished and civilised product. The issue with the 918 is that it's just boring.
