Anyone got any views on value for avg miles 996 C2 manual?
Am thinking of buying one privately.
What spec is it worth going for?
Any colours to look out for?
What about someone in the surrey area who can inspect?
Cheers
Gary

Anyone got any views on value for avg miles 996 C2 manual?
Am thinking of buying one privately. Sub £30k how much less is dependant on miles, spec, colour, plate
What spec is it worth going for? Usual additional spec is "18 wheels, full leather, anything else is a bonus but not worth much extra money
Any colours to look out for? Guards Red, White, Forest green, arena Red will all have a negative effect on value

What about someone in the surrey area who can inspect? pass

I think all 996's have it as standard, never seen one without, and yes it would be a must have

As a guide, a friend of mine just got £29k from a specialist as a trade in for a Turbo for a 1998 C2 in Polar Silver, 47k miles on it with some very good options fittted (18" turbo wheels / elec sunroof / sports pack / clear lenses etc)
If he was to sell it private he would have asked a couple of k more.
So budget around the £29 - £31k mark depending on mileage & condition for buying private and expect to pay £31-£34 if buying through a good specialist.

Oh & a good specialist - GT1 - they are in Chertsey on 01932 569 911. They can do inspections.
As for spec/colour, the higher the spec the better. I personally do not like the GT3 Aerokit, but 18" wheels, elec sunroof, sports pack etc will all help to sell the car come resale time too.
Colour wise, the conservative & safe choices would be silver, black or dark blues.
For some reason I think the pre facelifted 996's look better in black than the post 2001 cars...but can't work out why. I had a black C4S which looked fantastic when clean, but 30 seconds later looked dirty - a nightmare ! Polar silver, a kind of lightly blue silver which was a special order & looks lovely is great, but quite hard to find, as is Vasuvious which looks different colours depending on how dirty it is !
Then there are the real opinion dividing (but nightmare come resale) colours, guards red, white & speed yellow......

looking at autotrader it appears that good spec/solour, avg miles etc are advertised at 28K, so was hoping that 26K might be target price.
29K as a trade in is amazing!! That is 9K more than AFN offer!

Yep - as mentioned AFN for some reason obviously didn't want the car, though having dealt with them twice before when I was trading in a Box S & a C4S their part ex prices are a joke.
Another aside to this story is that he got refused finance by AFN, so he went direct to the finance company that AFN use, and got instant acceptance.....wierd.

Anyway, yes I can imagine you could get one for £26k, however the last one I saw at that price had 80k miles on it, was low spec & in a naff colour, so if you want an average mileage, good spec 996 then expect to pay, privately, a couple k more. Its also worth spending a little more with these cars to get a good well looked after example....lots less hassle in the long run !

I've just put a deposit down on a '98 C2 from Cridfords, 36k miles, Polar silver, black (full) leather (smooth, not ruffled) inc dash & doors, climate (standard option), manual coupe, GT3 bodykit, 18" split rims, costing £34k....felt more comfortable going for indy-dealer rather than private, as I got 3mnth/3k warranty (which covers the ubiquitous RMS prob on 996/Boxster's)....prob a good couple of £k's above a private buy. Am also getting Peter/Craig at GT-One to throw the book at it...they sound like v good guys, and will know more when their report comes thro tomorrow!!...

Anyone know which non-OPC warranty is a good bet?...heard Warranty Direct are v good, but went on their site today and no mention of Porsche (but did have some obscure brands, bizzarly).

Nice purchace. A thought, how about getting it checked over by AFN in Guildford, then that would give you the option of getting a Porsche warranty on the car.
Costs about the same from memory as GT1 charge.

gazzab is correct, GT1 do all Cridfords mechanical stuff & Cridfords put a lot of work their way. Not for one moment questioning their independance mind.

Recommend Cridfords. Johnathan is an experienced salesman and driver who can verbally articulate a car's dynamics well. In my case he put the effort in to provide me as a customer with the information I needed to make my decisions. Prices are keen too.
