Hi Guys,

Not posted for ages!

My 7GT3 is in for quite a bit of work at a Sports & Classic, with the diff plates being one of the items to be renewed. I was all set for the CUP plate upgrade, but after speaking with Mike, seems that this might well make the car less enjoyable on the road. It is a motor sport part at the end of the day.

After discussing, it was the std road plates that were settled on rather than upgrading to the Motorsport parts.

Dilemma - these parts now appear to be on back order from the Factory with no availability even on the horizon, which leaves only the Motorsport parts currently available.

Can anyone who has changed from the std set up to the CUP setup please share their experience?

The car will only see a couple of track days a year as it's predominately used on the road.

Thanks in advance,
Stevie

Yes I have cup plates in my car, struggling to see why this wouldn't be a good thing for a car that is mostly road use? Firstly you will notice a difference as the diff will actually work, therefore car will be stable when braking you will be able to carry more braking into the apex, only down side I can think of is you may notice a bit more push on turn in but this can be countered by braking even later and harderhehe
At the end of the day the diff in 997 is a 28/40 split (ish) so not the biggest lock up.

Mike looks after my car as well, so in the end I'd trust his advice before anyone on PH, good luck with your decision

If you go with the std parts, how long will they last? They are a known weakness of the 997 gt3, normally the LSD's last only
a few thousand miles. It's why i'd go for the Cup plates.

Hi Cunno.

Yes, Mike had explained there would be more push on lower speed turns. Like exiting roundabouts etc

So not really any negative effects on the drive other than this then. Ok, thanks for that.

SkiJumper,

They don't wear out that quickly. Unless your referring to track miles?

Essential upgrade for the track chap. About to fit them to my 997GT3 as part of a diff upgrade- but Mike knows his stuff so there will be a particular reason why he has given you this advice and it will be specific to your needs. I'd have another chat with him and ask him to clarify his reasoning. I'm sure that it will make good sense

Can't comment on 997 but my 996.2 GT3 diff plates were shot by 20k and 1 track day. Went for cup replacements and difference under braking etc was night and day. Never had an issue with understeer. Tad noisier on manoeuvring. Cups every time if it was me.

Standard plates are crap. Go for Cup parts that will work properly.
