997.2 GTS spec

I've got the opportunity to swap in my 997.2 4S Cab to a 997 4 GTS coupe which is very tempting however, the GTS I'm looking at has black sport design wheels rather than the usual centre locks and also has a multifunction wheel rather than the sports design.

The rest of the spec is ok, leather dash and full leather seats however, I just wanted to gauge option on the lack of standard GTS kit before I push the dealer on these

To me these are key aesthetic elements in making the GTS a bit special

I have the extended leather / alcantara deletion. I dont miss the alcantra but it would probably influcen resale values by 0.5% If its a PDK then the multifunction wheel would be an issue as it wont have the flappy paddles. If its a manual the multifunction is probably a good thing. I have walked away from non flappy paddle wheel cars before that was a make or break for me. It can be switched out though if the dealer is willing to throw that in the mix. In terms of replacing with your current ride, its a no brainer.

Whilst a lot of owners would 'prefer' not having the centre lock wheels I personally think they are essential GTS spec. All the cars I have seen for sale without them seem to take a lot longer to sell and for less ££££

Again for me the alcantara deletion would stop me buying the car, its part off the GTS spec and shouldn't be removed UNLESS that is you really want leather.

We are all different but I had my own essential spec when I bought mine and wouldn't have considered a car without the centre locks or alcantara. Having said that remember you're buying the car for YOU and not the next owner...

I was just browsing the Porsche Approved Used list, looking at GTS cabs. Some of them are listed at 385 BHP, others at 410 BHP.

385 is the output of the C2S, but I thought all the GTSs got the power upgrade to 410 - is that not the case?

It could just be a case of somebody putting the wrong numbers in, see it quite frequently on pistonheads classified.

As others have said (and yourself to some degree), the wheels & alcantara interior are key parts of the GTS, and were something mine 'had to have' when I was recently looking (and purchased).

Personally, I'd keep looking, but the choice is yours & depends I suppose of how important they are to you, as it will be your vehicles. I think what people have said about resale is true, ie it will not be worth as much, and more difficult to sell. Again, whether that is important to you, only you can answer.

The Dealer has agreed to swap the steering wheel which as a PDK car, agree it needs the paddles.

I'm going to push for the wheels and obviously there is nothing I can do about the alacantara however, I'm being offered a pretty good price to swap

I would have liked the alcantara too, but for the price I was paying, and everything else was perfect, it wasnt a deal breaker for me. centre locks, gt silver, and flappy paddles were my must haves.

Rather than go through the pain of a centre lock conversion I noticed BBS have a very similar style 5 stud wheel or would this be a "no no" bring non OEM?

To me, you seem to know it isn't the car/spec you want, so on that basis until it was a 'very' good deal then I'd keep looking (and to be honest even at a level where I thought it was a very good deal, when your spending this amount of money do you really buy something a few grand cheaper that you don't really want ?).

Nothing wrong with full leather, easier to keep clean esp with kids. Non centre locks, easier to maintain, anyone can change your tyre, still look good and easy to clean. PDK with paddles a must if not going manual.

Future values who cares unless your going to put it in the garage and look at it. However if your planning on driving it get a sharkwerks exhaust on it.

Centrelocks are part of the GTS package........cars without are harder to sell and worth less........look great and whilst people say they are a pain few use these on track and a road puncture can easily be sorted.....just join the AA for recovery.

my GTS has centrelocks. IMO must have and no regrets.
alcantara dash nice to have although i wanted this.
alcantara sports design st/wheel and seats IMO must have (but each to their own.)

My 12 plate has just had 4 yr service I'd suggest you get this in the deal if it is due and make sure brakes/ tyres are all decent/new

ideally i would have got some of the bespoke options like body coloured centre console/ seat backs etc but it is a case of finding a GTS at the right price/mileage/condition.... can take forwever!!!

Well after seeing the car in person and taking it for a drive I didn't actually worry about the missing spec as the car is fantastic.

The discount I was offered plus the trade in value for mine were a no brainer so should be picking it up on Wednesday!

I'm going to consider a steering wheel swap and have been offered an Alancantara wheel but I'm not sure if this will look ok with full leather or is that just my OCD!

Leather would look 'original' for the model and wears better imo although 991 and 981have leather wheel options whilst retaining alcantara elsewhere.

I made the mistake of selling my GTS last September (back to the dealer, too cheaply), bought a 964, missed the GTS too much and so bought another one last month (at the same price I bought the first one in 2013). The spec is much the same in all important respects - except it was missing the Alcantara. I ummed and ahhed about this for a while but was going to lose the car (manuals don't come up that often) so took the plunge. I thought I'd be worried, but in fact I'm not and now rather like the extended leather this one has. Really a rather luxurious place to be (as shown in av185's photo above).
