At long long long last Victory !!!!! With a great deal of help from other pistonheads member's especially WelshChris.

Porsche has given up and paid up, as we speak my 993 is having both its door check straps repaired under warranty !!!!!!!! at no cost to me.

A big big thanks goes out to all that have given advice and help. In the end it wasn't the money it was the principal individual v big corporate

And the individual won !!!!!!

Thanks guys and girls

As my driver's door on my 993TT is suffering this, I would love to know details of how you achieved this.

Well done, now all you have to do is hang on to your doors when you open them in the future.

They fixed mine as well, but I still dont have total confidence in the new ones and I`m damn sure they wont fix them FOC twice!

As mentioned before best fix is buy an RS - lighter doors put less strain on straps!

My door check strap is fixed -- using a bit of electrical tape.

It went for the annual service at Parr, who said it neded attention, but when Parr's specialist took a look, he diagnosed a round peg in an oval hole. The lugs on the door frame have worn slightly so the pin was clunking backwards and forwards as the detentes took hold.

The solution: take pin out, wrap a single layer of electrical tape around it, and voila, no more clicking noises. And I originally thought the whole mechanism was about to expire...

They should do David, because if you had them fixed at a Porsche approved bodyshop you will have a ten year warranty on the work, therefore once the first fix has been done any subsequent ones (unlikely to occur again) should be FOC unless they quibble about the warranty (and who ever heard of Porsche doing that eh? )

Having said that, the repair is actually done better than the original, so once done by an approved bodyshop (the front wings have to be removed to get at the front of the A pillar) the you shouldn't have any further grief.

Chris

By the way, anyone who needs specific help with getting Porsche to pay 50 percent of the costs, just send me an email - It worked for phib.

Chris, you are right I forgot about that. But I`ve got into the habit of keeping hold of the door when opening it. My nearside door is on the original check strap so I have even less confidence with that one!
