981 cGTS v 991.2
Discussion
Hi,
Not sure if this has been debated before, but if you were buying new which would you go for, a c£85k 991.2 Carrera or top specced CGTS (c£70k). If you were looking to sell in around 12 - 18 months, which do you think would have depreciated least? I really like both cars and can't quite decide. I have driven both and like them both in slightly different ways. I know only I can make my mind up but keen to hear other PH views.

Really dependent on whether you want a 'turbine' or n a engine.
The differing characteristics between established 'rear ' engined 911s and mid engined Caymans have narrowed in recent years.
The 911 as a model is clearly still the 'daddy' although the Cayman in GTS format is a convincing package.
Residually my money would go Cayman GTS simply on the basis it will be rarer and doubtless be last of the n a engines.

I'm a 911 man personally but I've been a passenger in a Cayman GTS through the Alps and it really was one of the most impressive cars i've been in both dynamicly and the interior is a lvely place to be, it's a tough call.
Curveball for you, how about a low miles 991.1 GTS, that's my new dream car.

Nice curveball!
I guess part of the attraction to me of the 991.2 was option to spec a pan roof (a Cayman with a pan roof would be perfect for me) and the new Sat Nav. I like the GTS and I guess a great investment though nice examples are low to mid £90k so a bit on the high side.
Choices choices.......

Have a 2006 Cayman - was looking at nearly new Cayman GTS or 911 S. Ended up going for 911 after driving both, tough choice but the 911 put a bigger smile on my face when I put the foot down. The CGTS is a great car but did not feel a massive step up from my Cayman - perhaps if I never had that I would have gone for the CGTS.
Thanks WoolyJoe, sees a good logic to me.
As I have thought about this, based on the comments, I agree that a CGTS will be rarer than a 991.2 Carrera and as such probably a better financial proposal in the medium term. I do like the CGTS - really special. When you look how cheap they are against a GT$ they seem a real bargain - at least 90% of the fun in real world driving for 60% of the cost (if you buy second hand!)
Now all thats left is the colour - thinking Sapphire Blue with Turbo's.....

are you the person to drive around boxing day with the roof down ? If the answer is yes, buy the boxster. If no buy the 911.Not sure if this has been debated before, but if you were buying new which would you go for, a c£85k 991.2 Carrera or top specced CGTS (c£70k). Both will depreciate like a brick thrown out of a window.
Thanks Nick28 - input much appreciated. I bet you are enjoying the GT4 - was tempted to buy one of the many being flipped - but a bit rich for my blood. If I could've got a build slot (and hence only paid list) for that or the Spyder that's where I would have gone, so to me the CGTS is probably the next best thing. Thanks again
How's this for a curveball, i knocked this up yesterday, oh if I only had a spare £100k
