I was a bit shocked when we went scouting the locations too, but as it turned out the GT2 handled the terrain better than the Focus ST diesel estate they were using as the crew car. I don't know why they included so much of it driving on the Hardknott Pass when we did a fair bit of filming on some roads that had better surfaces & you could at least get out of second
I had a text from Charles just after the video was put up asking if they could do another one of it on a track. As it's a bit loud for UK tracks, I've offered them a couple of dates over the summer at Spa & the 'ring so watch this space.
This is a 'follow' video of it on the 'ring last year:

Thanks, I think so too
If I had to choose which of my 911s to keep, this would be the one.Because it's not a "real" one (ie. wrong VIN), it's not worth £500K+. To me, this is a good thing because it can be driven & enjoyed as opposed to sitting in storage like the majority do. I've done over 20K miles in it since I bought it in 2012, including 2 big trips down to Italy. It's still possible to "make" a GT2; all that's required is the bravery to chop up a perfectly good Turbo & the wherewithal to buy all the right bits. It not being a real one allows you to do things like change to more modern dampers, using a lighter & better made exhaust & changing out the rear screen for polycarbonate without worrying about impacting values. I've been told by a couple of people that have driven mine in addition to several "real" GT2s that they would sooner drive mine. Make of that what you will...

Nick, may I ask a couple of questions about your lovely rep ?

Are those the correct Speedline mags, the centres look a bit dark coloured ?
Does it have GT2/RS rear calipers ?
Do you have inner wheel arch liners, are those custom fabricated ?
Do you have all the GT2/RS rubbers/links/mounts in the chassis and which shockers/springs do you run ?
Do you run an LSD ?
Have you weighed it, what it it come in at ?
TIA

No the Speedline mags are unavailable except s/h - Fressinger have a set for €30K + VAT Are those the correct Speedline mags, the centres look a bit dark coloured ?

Mine are correct GT2 size & offset 2 piece with anodised outers for €3600 - it's a practical car that's used, not a museum piece.
AFAIK, the calipers are the Turbo Big Reds on both this & the real GT2 I looked at. It uses 322mm discs all round.
Arch liners - unavailable and so these were lovingly fabricated by me. Not perfect but they do the job.
Engine mounts are RS, everything else is stock. It's a road car so I didn't want a rattly monster. The dampers are KW with custom damping & spring rates
It does run an LSD
Last time it was weighed, it was around 1310Kg

The wheels look great and and the Mags just crack so wise choice, GT2 has bigger rear calipers from the RS, worth doing when the old ones get tatty, not expensive.

On the suspension bits, I can recommend the turbo S kit which Porsche did for the 993 turbo, it is RS/GT2 parts which comprehensively change the chassis. I run this kit with Bilstein PSS10 and it is a fantastic set up and really works with 2WD. It makes a standard turbo feel lardy and it is totally daily driveable, I have driven all over Europe many times with it (including naggy passenger/s). Still available as a kit if you ever felt the need to sharpen it up. You would need to run it with your KWs as the shocks/springs it comes with are made for billiard German surfaces !
Details FYI

Hi Nick
I'm seriously tempted to follow your path and GT2 a 993 Turbo with the help of some heavy duty specialist expertise (maybe 9M/F Sport) - what approximate costs did you face?? Appreciate there are many possibilities and variables involved but I would love to do a decent job with a similar end result to what you have achieved..
Please PM if preferred - Or did you have a thread running when building?
Many thanks

I had a 996 turbo with GT2 kit and I felt I could drive and enjoy it without any real concern for resale/residuals, which certainly wouldn't have been the case had I had a real GT2.
I would LOVE a 993 turbo GT2 replica.
Real ones are now in the stratosphere so makes sense to see a usable recreation

Nice video. Personally, I think the car does suit the terrain.
Watching that reminds me of a group of us on a climbing trip, whilst studying for our A-levels. There were four of us, with big 70l rucksacks, crammed into my mate's mum's Nissan Micro 1.0. Two of us had to get out, shoulder our packs and walk up the passes because the poor little car just didn't have the grunt.

One of the best looking Porsche's of all time
Agreed, I've seen two in the metal (and pop-riveted arch brows), one was a genuine and the other was, I'm fairly sure, a really nice turbo-based recreation, which was silver with the gold cup style multi-spoke alloy split-rims, which looked absolutely perfect.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
