Porsche Central Operations Reading
Discussion
Hey guys,
Can anyone fill me in with what Porsche Central Operations Reading is, and what the difference is between getting these guys to undertake work on a car, rather than Reading OPC? I've been told this is actually owned by Porsche, but then I also thought OPC Reading was owned by Porsche?
I'm interested in some bodywork that needs doing on the GT3, nothing major just bumper respray. Would prefer the best standard of work - the car has never had any paintwork. Is central operations where they look after the press cars and Carerra GTs etc? Anyone had any experience using them and quality of the paint shop? Is all work done there?
I have had a conversation with OPC Reading but they were a bit sketchy on the details. They said they get all their paintwork done at an approved shop in Fareham? Don't fancy my car being driven for an hour to get to a paintshop to be honest, hence why I asked about central operations.
thanks!

I think (but am not sure as it was a long time ago) this company actually do the paintwork for Porsche Reading.

I think that is out of date, there is a list here:http://www.specialisedpaintwork.com

I was told by OPC Reading that they use: Premier Panel Skills Ltd in Fareham.
Not great that they drive your car there and back to get the work done. Sounds crazy to me. Not sure there is a closer outfit that is currently approved on that list. Which is why Central Operations sounds like a good option, if they are good!
There is a guy on here called Woppum, Reading have basically stripped his brand new GT3 RS and painted it a different colour. Looks like they are doing an excellent job. I'm sure Woppum would commend them on the quality of their work. Go checkout the GT3 RS owners thread for the pics.

I was out the back with my sales guy a couple of weeks ago and saw that GT3 RS. It is absolutely the best thing I've seen in years. It must have cost a fortune but I'm sure its worth every penny.Jonny08 said:

Was it done by reading or central operations?I work for OPC Reading; we are part of the retail group owned by Porsche - along with Guildford, Hatfield, Chiswick and Mayfair.
Operations is the department looking after 918 / CGT / Press and Promotions. The used car prep and PDI on new cars for the group are looked after centrally too.
Operations houses a bodywork prep facility - no structural (crash repair) is undertaken; general refurb and colour changes are looked after here (the GT3 RS as mentioned earlier) and Carrera GT colour changes for example.
Premier Panel Skills are PC Reading's recommended repairer - the network having restructured from Approved to recommended repairers a few years back now.

So in your opinion, would the quality of work done by Operations be better than that of premiere panels? I would assume operations do an outstanding job if they look after 918 and CGT? I also assume they charge accordingly?
I did ask the service receptionist specifically how do the cars get to the paint shop (premiere) and she confirmed they are driven there and back. Are the cars actually driven - or taken there in a truck? Maybe she got it wrong or I misunderstood?
I will PM you some info.
Re: Premier Panels; they are a quality set-up, the owner has a few Porsche cars - inc. a GT4.
The cars are generally driven to-from-to as logistically it's easier. We have access to a covered shuttle - with Cayenne tow car but it is busy - if the booking can be planned it may be an option.

Is the Cayenne back on the road?Re: Premier Panels; they are a quality set-up, the owner has a few Porsche cars - inc. a GT4.

Last time I was in there it was in a sorry state on a ramp waiting for parts IIRC.

Would also like to put another thumbs up for Premier Panels - really good bunch - enthusiastic lovers of the brand - owner Ian is a quality bloke - I meet him when i had to get a repair done on my car back in December - was high quality job that i was very satisfied with. I was back there this morning for an estimate, because someone caused some minor damage again and so the car will be going back to them again - no hesitation.Re: Premier Panels; they are a quality set-up, the owner has a few Porsche cars - inc. a GT4.

They are involved in Porsche Restoration projects as well as normal dealership work - they currently even have the Red Porsche Press GT4 there for repair as it has suffered some pretty extreme damage at the hands of someone - front and rear bumpers damage - side skirts and rocker panels and the whole floor pan need work - seems like it had a bad landing after getting some air on a road test!. They have also just expanded into another and are refreshing with workshops - got a nice little tour. Lots of interesting bits to look at.
