911 turbo 3.6 please help.
Discussion
I have a november 1993 turbo 3.6 which an OPC has just told me is a Special Edition.
I disagreed saying the only special editions of the 3.6 were the stripped out racer with rollcage (IMSA) or the ultra rare 3.6 S with 968 headlights.
They were adamant that the first 3.6 turbo IIs were simply badged as 'turbo', didn't have 18" speedlines, and didn't have leather as standard. My car (silver badged turbo 3.6, leather, 18" speedlines) is actually the 911 turbo 3.6 Special Edition.
I have not seen this documented anywhere, I thought all the 3.6s were badged as such, and I've read a lot about these cars.
Can anyone out there shed any light on the subject?

Leather was standard on the 3.3 so I doubt there was a 3.6 that didn't have it as standard....
There was a 3.6 S2, which i believe only existed in the states and was made in exceptionally small numbers...
That's exactly what I thought(leather)!!!!!
I wondered about the S2, but as you point out there weren't any ROW cars built.
Simon apparently your VIN should hold they key to whether or not it is a "special edition" or not ? Allegedly there were a few around with c20 BHP more than std thru better cyl heads, larger valves etc.
If you cant get your OPC on the VIN case we may be able to trace it or failing that run it on our dyno that should see if more ponies are present.

Allan

I had a look in my bible, Paul Frere's history of pork, but it did not talk about any special editions of the 3.6 turbos. The change to 18" wheels from the 17" on the 3.3 was standard. Also, he only listed one engine spec. for the 3.6 turbo.
If there was a "special edition" it must have been a very limited run and a well kept secret.

That's a great help - call Merlin (if they still exist) and they will tell you what "converted" means. The car doesn't sound like anything more than a "special wishes" type of car. Dealers often specced up their demo cars in this way - doesn't make them a limited edition though.

Well kept secret indeed. I can't find any reference to a Special Edition car, even in the sublime 964 Companion.

Thanks very much for that Mustard. Converted Vehicle? Perhaps it was originally a left hooker...

The X88 option is not printed in the service book. However my local specialist has bought it :
New heat exchangers
New wastegate
New crossover pipes
New lots more expensive stuff
all for a 1993 3.6 turbo.....
.....and nothing fits
Weird. It's not the ultra rare 3.6 Turbo with a 3.6 leyland DAF four pot turbo diesel in is it?
Surprised that nothing will fit or be a direct replacement...
