996 GT3 or GT3 CS
Discussion
I have started looking for a GT3 Clubsport (LHD). Increasingly I am thinking that I should be better of with standard one and bucketseats (to which I add a rollover bar). There seem to be more cars at better prices. The only real difference is then the smaller flywheel standard in the Clubsport and that the seats are made of fabric. Am I missing anything else in my consideration? Is there any exclusivity value of owning a true Clubsport?
What are peoples thoughts. I am sure there are enough who own either.
Many thx

I went through this last month before getting a LHD mk1 comfort.
There are more comforts than clubsports.
What really put me off the clubsport was the fabric of the seats doesnt last long. I preferred leather.
The only thing i'm adding is the half rollcage.
Cheers and good luck with your search.
Ajit.

If you are thinking of tracking it (I presume this from the need for a rollbar) then you should seek out a clubsport. The single-mass flywheel makes a big difference. The CS also has a racing harness fitted to the drivers seat which also makes a big difference on track. Apart from that the CS was lighter due to less sound deadening materials and has the internal/external cutoff switches and the fire extinguisher.
Someone else told me only on the MK1 did the CS have the single flywheel. on the MK2 only the RS. So there really is not difference between the two except for:
- Roll Cage
- Seat covering
- Fire extinguisher
- 2 less speakers
- 6 point harness
With the exception of the full cage no big difference. Plus is appears that the owners of the standard went increasingly for priceless extras…
Any other good reasons besides the race car look?

There's no difference in sound-deadening between the two cars.
The seatbelts are under £200 and the single-mass flywheel is only about £400 plus fitting, so re-creating a CS from a non-CS is not very expensive ie don't pay a lot more for CS than non-CS if you just want the couple of extra bits. Most parts can be purchased easily from www.carnewal.com

was posted in another forum withing pistonheads yesterday - ordered some while I wait for my cage & harnesses to be fitted. Might be similarly valid for others.
