Tracker. Always active?

Is a tracker (e.g. PVTS /Cobra etc.) active everytime you drive or just if you forget fob/card? Just wondered as in theory this info could also be used to confirm something like a speeding offence? Never had a tracker so not sure how they work.

If you're paying the subscription then it is always on and the fob simply tells the provider that the vehicle movement is legitimate. Actually, even if you're not paying the subscription it may still be on. Not sure. Either way I'd not give any though to the idea they would shop you for speeding

thought so, but can Police not track anyone with a tracker as they would a stolen car? Just hypothetically of course...
