Lost keys

Hi All,

Had the pleasure of losing my keys for the 996 and 964 this weekend.

I am covered by two different insurance companies. The 996 is fully covered, so not an issue. However the 964 is only covered to £500.

Any ideas on cost of lock replacement for the 964? I assume this will include the following:

- Ignition barrel
- x2 door barrels
- cubby draw barrel
- x2 Keys

Most will be able to make keys to suit existing locks if you are not worried about the lost keys getting into the wrong hands or advise you about lock changing prices.

Hello,

The cars have already gone to a London Porsche approved repairer via my insurance company.

Just wanted a guestimate price for the 964 as I believe that I will be footing some of the bill.

A set of replacement locks for a 993 (which is not significantly different) cost about £1000 at an OPC about 12-13 years ago. Luckily a friend had a lost keys insurance benefit to a credit card, and a claim on that went through fine - the limit was £1,000 and the OPC were good enough to discount the job to £998.

I'd definitely be looking at using an auto locksmith if it's just because the keys have been lost (rather than worn) - I think making a key to the lock barrel is pretty routine (I was quoted £35 to do this for a BMW, on the basis I would remove a lock barrel from a door for them) then just buy new key blanks from the OPC (probably £30 each for the key head and blade) and have them cut.

3 weeks down and still no cars!!! However have had the pleasure of driving a 4 door mini diesel around...

how ? I see some one misplacing 1 key out a pair, but you lost 4 keys from 2 cars ! how is that possible ?

Lost one set of keys for both cars, however it's a security risk so insurance wanted all locks to be changed.

It's a mare it's taking so bloody long. I could've had the 993 back on the road quicker!!
